Job Title: Shipping Specialist Status: Full-Time, Salary Non-Exempt

Department: Production Control

Reports To: Production Control Supervisor

Job Summary: The Shipping Specialist is preparing all pertinent paperwork and electronic communication related to shipments to customers directing daily shipping operator’s activities. The incumbent works closely with Production Control staff and handles customer communication that relates to sales orders, shipping schedule and actual shipments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Download EDI documents
• Enter manual sales orders in Visual including service parts and sample parts
• Make carrier contacts to coordinate shipping schedules based on customer’s requirements
• Maintain other communication systems if required by customer
• Prepare and distribute pick lists for staging daily shipments
• Prepare and distribute shipping labels for daily shipments
• Review customer sales order for accuracy
• Send ASN and check its confirmation
• Send other EDI documents or other data in customer specified systems
• Finalize shipping documents for truck drivers and hand to them
• Communicate any problems related to shipments to shipping supervisor and/or designated production control coordinator as needed
• Close sales orders in a timely manner
• Work with accounts receivable on trouble-shooting problems with shipments
• Maintain computer system
• Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures.
• Maintain good attendance
• Other essential duties as assigned or delegated

Non Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work on overlapping shifts to get coverage of shipment schedule
• Attend meetings as required
• Participate inventory or cycle counts as assigned
• Other non-essential duties as assigned or required.

Physical Tasks:

• Sitting at desk and continuous computer use
• Occasional lifting from 1 to 50 lbs.
• Pack, repack and sort goods as needed
• Other physical tasks as required.

Cognitive Tasks:

• Reasoning ability when arranging pick lists, bill of lading, and other shipping documents
• High level of accuracy in data entry
• Problem solving ability and due diligence
• Ability to communicate effectively with truck drivers, customer contacts, shipping operators and other personnel
• Other cognitive task as required.

Machinery and Equipment:

• Computer, copier, fax machine, phone system, calculator, time clock
• Other machinery and equipment as required.

Work Environment/Environmental Conditions:

• Works independently and with others
• Office environment with daily exposure to warehouse area and shipping dock
• Occasional factory environment with noise and dust
• Other environmental or work conditions that arise in the course of employment

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent and minimum of two years experience in shipping, warehouse or receiving
• Excellent computer user skills
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals and ability to communicate effectively with peers and production personnel, supervisors and managers

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $30,000.00 - $40,000.00 per year
