Grandview Heights Schools is seeking a 6th Grade Teacher for the 2023-2024 at Larson Middle School. A successful candidate will hold a 4-9 teaching license with an ELA teaching field. Preferred candidates will have more than one field (i.e ELA and Social Studies). Please see the job description below for more general information on the position.TITLE GRADES 6-8, MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHERREPORTS TO Building PrincipalEMPLOYMENT STATUS Regular, Exempt, GHEA Bargaining Member POSITION SUMMARY Assist adolescent aged students with the development of the skills and knowledge that lead to competence and maturity.INSTRUCTION AND LEADERSHIP* Establish a safe and comfortable environment for all students, including the establishment of reasonable guidelines and appropriate consequences for behavior* Develop a thorough knowledge of the courses of study for implementation in the classroom, using a variety of instructional methods and materials* Continuously assess student achievement in order to design and differentiate instruction* Prepare clear and timely lesson plans, as required by the Principal, which demonstrates knowledge of the course(s) of study that contain sound teaching and assessment methods* Schedule instructional time according to district and building guidelines* Administer standardized and criterion referenced tests according to district policies and procedures* Make effective use of resources and materials, including collaboration with the K-12, 21st Century Learning Coaches* Provide opportunities for students to share and display their achievements* Keep accurate and detailed records according to district and building guidelines* Prepare adequate lesson plans and instructions for substitute teachers which outlining classroom expectation and building procedures* Observe the daily building schedule, including starting and ending times for teachers and students, and perform assigned duties* Serve as a role model for students in the practice of ethics, responsibility, and democratic valuesPROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT*Be available for education related purposes outside the instructional day when requested to do so and under reasonable terms*Serve on committees and participate in school related activities in a professional and responsible manner*Complete an individual professional development plan according to procedures adopted by the district*Learn and implement the administrative procedures associated with the teaching assignment; for example, applying for a field trip or conducting a fundraiser COMMUNICATION AND COLLABORATION*Effectively and clearly report to parents in a regular and positive manner at intervals established by the district and/or building*Make appropriate referrals of students for supplemental help; attend planning meetings as assigned, and implement individual education plans*Communicate with agencies, authorities and private practitioners, according to confidentiality guidelines and other district procedures*Use sound judgment, tact, and diplomacy when interacting with students, parents and the community*Maintain the confidentiality of information that is not public domain*Work cooperatively with peers, administrators and support staffQUALIFICATIONS*Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university*Appropriate State of Ohio teaching certificate/licenseOTHERAssist with the selection of textbooks and other teaching materialsWork with student teachers, if assignedMaintain appropriate personal appearance and hygieneObserve all safety and health regulations of the building and districtPerform other duties as assigned by the Principal, the Superintendent or his/her designeesWORKING CONDITIONS*Potential exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue*Occasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather; that is, being prepared to come to school on all scheduled work days, except calamity days*Some interaction with unruly children*Potential interaction with angry or distraught adults*Regular requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, reach with hands and arms*Occasional requirement to lift, carry, push and pull various items; for example, books and supplies, up to a maximum of 25 lbs.
