ACCESS SERVICES ASSOCIATE, MIT Libraries-Dewey Library, to serve as a member of the student supervisors’ team and on the team responsible for daily circulation and service desk operations. Responsibilities include assisting with the use of electronic equipment and performing basic troubleshooting; interpreting and enforcing policies/procedures; providing information about access to collections and space; opening/closing the library; reporting and resolving facilities and safety incidents/issues; serving on a team of student supervisors to hire, train, and manage student employees; helping train staff and developing documention/training on policies, procedures, and technology; participating in book searching/shelving, collecting statistics, handling financial transactions, sorting and delivering materials, and identifying opportunities for service improvements; performing some materials processing; participating in planning, testing, and implementing new systems/services; participating on committees/teams/groups/projects; and performing other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: high school diploma or its equivalent; two years’ relevant experience, including with library systems and/or cataloging standards; ability to lift 40 lbs., push/pull carts weighing up to 150 lbs, move boxes, and bend/squat/reach to shelve library materials; tolerance for exposure to dust; experience with MS Office and e-mail and calendar software and ability to learn and master new software/systems/technology; demonstrated organizational, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills; initiative; flexibility; and service orientation. Must be able to manage competing priorities and work under pressure; tolerate ambiguity and work and learn in a rapidly changing environment; collaborate and interact effectively with a diverse group of people; and identify problems and carry out solutions independently and/or collaboratively. PREFERRED: post-secondary education; academic and/or research library experience; and experience working with ALMA, ILLiad, or RAPID ILL. Job #21784-5
This is a full-time (35 hrs/wk.) position. The Monday through Friday (9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.) schedule is subject to change based on business needs and MIT's academic calendar.
