St. Vincent de Paul Society of San Francisco operates the Multi-Service Center - Northern California’s largest homeless shelter, Navigation Centers for chronically homeless individuals and couples and the Riley Center - Domestic Violence shelter and services for survivors. SUMMARY

The Accountant provides support in the Accounting department and will handle monthly reconciliations, journal entries, and daily posting of donations. This is a full-time, exempt position which reports to the Director of Finance.

BENEFIT OVERVIEW

Responsibilities:

  • Daily posting of Development donations from Raiser’s Edge NXT to Sage Intacct, and resolving variances with Donor Database Manager
  • Monthly reconciliation of Raiser’s Edge/Sage Intacct and resolve variances as necessary
  • Monthly reconciliation and review of documentation support for billing and closing of government contract accounts and collaborating with key staff in completing the invoice
  • Monthly support, preparation and entry of government contract reimbursement requests to different online portals and other platforms
  • Monthly journal entries (including, but not limited to) bi-weekly payroll, workers compensation, pledges, allocations and other general adjustments
  • Review journal entries and reconciliations prepared by other staff members, effecting corrections when necessary
  • Maintain Journal Entry, Cash Receipt and Accounts Payable files for the Finance Department
  • Annual preparation of various audit schedules and work papers
  • Manage and document usage, purchase, and distribution of gift cards
  • Assist the Director of Finance and Senior Accounting Specialist in analyzing account variances at month end close or as necessary
  • Special projects, as assigned from time to time

The ideal candidate will possess personal initiative and work collaboratively as a member of a diverse, multi-cultural team. The individual must be professional, organized and have strong attention to detail. The position requires flexibility, self-motivation and dependability.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years progressively responsible accounting experience, preferably in a not-for-profit organization.
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting. Significant relevant work experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Sage Intacct accounting software.
  • Ability to complete work within required deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and also contribute and collaborate as a team member.
  • Average data entry speed and accuracy.
