T*itle: *Accounting Clerk
Intake Department: Reports to Accountant and Director of Management
Department Responsibilities: Handles all external and internal financial transaction or the firm and clients. Responsible for chart of accounts ledgering and proper classification of financial transactions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities*
· Handle all accounts payables for client related costs and expenses.
· Entering invoices as we receive to ensure timely entry of costs for recovery.
· Communicate with all vendors regarding open invoices and send vendors closing invoice letters when cases settle.
· Scan and save all invoices and check stubs into electronic file and assist the financial department conversion to electronic files (paperless)
· Entering and updating all vendor and employee case management system contact cards
· Responsible for costs write-offs and tracking large amounts to recover.
· Responsible for processing and tracking outgoing checks to clients, vendors, and other counsels.
· Assist with running requested reports.
· Assist with processing electronic deposits.
· Bank runs when needed.
· Support timely monthly end financial close, including but not limited to; assigned journal entries, accruals, and overall maintenance of all operational management accounts
· Perform other duties as required to assist the financial department
Competencies

- Legal Experience or former Law firm experience
- Knowledge of GAAP (Generally Acceptable Accounting Principles)
- Responds promptly to client and attorney needs; solicits attorney and Case Manager feedback to improve service; responds to requests for service and assistance; meets commitments.
- Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and gets clarification; responds well to questions; participates in meetings.
- Writes clearly and informatively; edits work for spelling and grammar; varies writing style to meet needs; presents numerical data effectively; able to read and interpret written information.
Ability to work with little supervision; prioritizes and anticipates work needs; works well under occasional periods of pressure and short deadlines.
- Always keeps client and firm information confidential; understands and implements general rules of ethical behavior applicable to lawyers.
- Has knowledge of computer operation, internet software, spreadsheet software and word processing software; the use of Microsoft products is preferred. Has the ability to type and operate office equipment.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s Degree or 3 to 5 year financial experience handling similar job responsibilities preferred.
Or
Ongoing accounting education.
Legal experience or financial legal experience
Skill Set and Abilities
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to attorneys, clients and other employees of the organization.
R*easoning Ability*
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
W*ork Hours*
Full time, non-exempt, position. Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Compensation:
· Non-exempt, full-time, compensation based on experience.
· Fully paid benefits, with a generous allowance for dependent coverage.
· 401(k) with match and profit sharing.
