Title: Accounting Manager

Type: Contract

Location: Bridgeport Location 501 W 35th St. Chicago, IL 60616

Pay Rate: $35-45/hour

Must Have:

Key Responsibilities:

a) Supervise the day-to-day activities of a general accounting and reconciliation team. Ensure the staff follows established policies and procedures in the performance of their duties such as but not limited to, general ledger analysis and reconciliation of accounts, audit of financial documents, preparation of financial statements, proper application of accounting principles and various system validations on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. Review and approve all manual journal entries prepared by staff.

b) Responsible to develop and set reasonable and measurable standards for each employee and assess each employee performance every six months.

c) Provide ongoing training, developing, and mentoring of staff accountants on performance of the assigned duties; support Assistant Controller in overall management of the team.

e) Responsible for reviewing Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) Statements, Interpretations, Concept Statements and Technical Bulletins to ensure the timely and proper application of the standards, as well as implementing the early adoption of new standards when

beneficial to the Board. Especially, responsible for implementing the new standards related to cash, investment and debt.

f) Ensure the various PBC (prepared by client) work-papers prepared by staff, as well as the fiscal data compiled for inclusion in the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) are completed accurately and within the established deadlines.

g) Responsible for maintaining and updating the Accounting manual, as necessary, with approved changes in policies and procedures.

h) Responsible for assisting ITS in the implementation, migration, or upgrading of the various Oracle Financial modules. Attend meetings; provide input, feedback and end-user acceptance testing.

i) Function as a liaison on accounting related issues with various departments such as Grants Management, Payroll, Budget, Facilities and Treasury. Participially, communicate and understand the school districts’ complex cash position, cash flow, debt activity and disbursement.

Education and Experience:

a) Education Required-Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance; Master’s Degree a plus; a Certified Public Accountant is highly preferred.

b) Experience Required: 5+ Years in a large government organization; 2+ Years Supervisory experience in a large government organization. Banking experience is preferred.

Computer Skills:

● Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint; Oracle Financials, SQL programming language is a plus. Advanced Oracle experience in a large government organization is required.

Job Type: Contract

Salary: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
