Maplewood Nursing Home is looking for an outgoing, creative individual to join our activities team! Someone who is self motivated but a team player willing to create a fun environment for our residents and staff!

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the Activity Director, responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the Activities Department including assisting the residents with recreational activities and nonprofessional services listed within the scope of their care plans.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

· Organizes and facilitates group programs, including but not limited to bowling, movies, bingo, cooking, arts and crafts, holiday and special party groups, mini bus rides, shopping, luncheons, and musical and social functions in and outside the facility.

· Adapts activities to the resident’s current abilities.

· Maintains records and reports, including resident activity attendance at programs. Reports changes in the resident’s mood in a timely manner as assigned.

· Maintains privacy, dignity, and confidentiality, and ensures that resident rights are protected at all times.

· Assists residents to and from activity programs. May provide ambulation assistance with consistent gait belt usage following individual transfer status.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAIING REQUIRED:

Duties require knowledge of activities for geriatric nursing home residents. Equivalent to completion of a high school diploma plus additional courses from a two year college or technical school and one to three years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must be registered as a Licensed Nurse Assistant by the State of New Hampshire.

Must attend mandatory in-services and retain LNA registration with the State of New Hampshire.

Become thoroughly oriented to and agree to comply with all facility policies.

Must be skilled in techniques of intervention.

Possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a Defensive Drivers Certificate.

Visual and aural ability to detect changes in the residents’ condition which would require nursing intervention.

Ability to be empathetic and patient when dealing with a variety of resident health concerns and behaviors.

Ability to use a creative approach to providing activities to motivate residents.

Knowledge of resident rights.

Ability to properly assess resident needs for activities and determine which activities are appropriate

Possess a genuine interest and concern for geriatric patients with an understanding and acceptance of illnesses and handicaps.

Working knowledge of modern office equipment, including the use of computers.

Creative skills: music, art, or craft abilities preferred. Creativity and a friendly and personable manner. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Ability to market activities in the facility to encourage staff participation, as well as in the community to encourage volunteer involvement

Recommended Training:

Current CPR and Basic First Aid

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Assists Activity Director to supervise activity staff, planning, programming and required documentation (i.e. MDS and associated tasks). Functions as the AD when AD absent. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Cheshire County’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training, discipline and assisting with performance evaluations. Instructs new activity personnel, and assists with hiring process.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is performed primarily in nursing home environment, which is generally not subject to extremes in temperature, odors, etc.

Frequent, heavy lifting of residents and activity equipment utilizing proper body mechanics and techniques.

Requires standing and bending when engaging residents during programs and other related interactions.

Continuous standing and walking.

May be required to work evenings and weekends.

Work schedule may vary according to resident needs.

Must be able to lift, push, pull, transfer or carry up to 50 pounds independently
