JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision of nursing staff members, assists in providing patient care, prepares records, and maintains a clean environment.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

A. Education: High school graduate or equivalent.

B. Personal Job-Related Skills: Ability to read and write in English, effective oral and written communication skills and ability to comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions. Fluency in other languages preferred.

C. Licensure, Registry or Certification: Texas Nursing Assistant certification / Medical Assistant preferred. Current BLS certification or must be obtained within three (3) months of hire.

D. Experience: Prior Work Experience: One (1) year experience in a medical setting preferred.

E. Physical and Mental Requirements: Requires normal/corrected vision and heard to a normal range. Physical demand level is medium to medium-heavy and requires lifting patients with assistance. Lifting may be 50 to 75 pounds. Typically walking or standing most of the shift. Requires ability to pull, push, move beds and equipment. Requires full range of body motion to reach, bend, stoop, kneel and twist to perform patient care responsibilities. The work environment may be subject to emergency situations. Workers may be exposed to stressful patient situations. The noise level is moderate.

Requirements:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. Provide general nursing care to the patients in accordance to nursing standards and under the direction of the registered nurses in the department and within their scope of practice.

B. Participates in Performance and Process Improvement for the department.

C. Collaborates with physicians, nursing staff and other ancillary departments regarding the treatment and care of all patients.

D. Orders, stocks, and ensures supplies are current within the department.

E. Float to other nursing departments to assist with increased census or emergency situations and performs basic nursing duties.
