A. Fantis School, an exceptional 3K-8th grade private Greek Orthodox School in Brooklyn Heights, is seeking Group Leaders for their after-school program who have experience working with children and a strong understanding of early childhood development. We are looking for dedicated, energetic, and enthusiastic staff with a positive, caring, and fun attitude combined with creativity, innovation, and passion for working with children.

Details:

• Compensation: $20-25/hour depending on experience and education
• Hours: 2:00-6:00 PM
• Days: Monday to Friday. Initial training will be from 9/6 - 9/7/22. The program workdays are from 9/8/22 - 6/23/23 on all days that the school is open and operating a full day
• Additional pay/hours offered for optional Break and Summer Camp days

Responsibilities:

• Assist the after-school program in continuing the school’s philosophy, tradition, and mission.
• Supervise groups of children in activities, ensuring safety, and encouraging positive participation. Help to maintain a structured classroom environment that engages students and motivates them to succeed
• Plan and lead organized activities for students such as art and science projects, group games, and physical activities. Differentiate lessons so they are appropriate to students with various abilities, fulfilling the school’s mission to educate the whole child
• Implement positive discipline and classroom management techniques.
• Establish and maintain a positive relationship with all program participants. Communicate with students, families, faculty, and co-workers in a positive and respectful manner
• Attend mandatory staff meetings, trainings, and the occasional event.
• Handling and recording any incidents and injuries that occur with any child in their care.
• Prepare attendance and other reports as required.
• All other pertaining duties as indicated by the Director.

Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:

• Must be 18 years old or older
• Must have a High School diploma/GED
• Must be vaccinated against Covid-19
• Must have a minimum of 1 year of experience working with groups of students in either 3K and PreK and/or in Elementary and Middle School
• Ability to climb stairs, stand for long periods and lift at least 40 pounds
• Ability to arrive early, or on time, properly prepared for work.
• Ability to care about, understand, listen to, nurture, support, and accept all children.
• Must be a team player with the ability to work toward the shared goal of maintaining the high standards of the school within the afterschool program.
• Willingness to hear feedback to improve performance and outcomes.
• Outstanding communication skills
• An open mind and sense of humor!

Additional:

• Knowledge of Greek language and culture is a plus
• Certified in Adult & Pediatric First Aid, CPR/AED, and Epipen administration is a plus
