Job title - Driver

Job purpose

To provide medical transport services in accordance with local, state and federal rules and regulations; the standing orders of the Medical Control Physician; and with AMS

Duties and responsibilities

  • Answers calls from dispatcher, and proceeds to the address or location given, using the most expeditious route, depending on traffic and weather conditions, observing traffic ordinances and regulations concerning emergency vehicle operation.
  • Safely and skillfully operates and drives ambulance.
  • Recognizes the need for additional assistance and radios the dispatcher to request additional resources when appropriate.
  • Lifts stretcher, with partner’s assistance, places it in ambulance and ensures that the patient and stretcher are secured and continues patient care.
  • Assists in lifting and carrying the patient out of the ambulance and into the destination.
  • Upon request, provides assistance to receiving facility staff and or family.
  • Effectively, courteously and professionally communicates with the caregiver responsible for the patient at both the place of destination and at the place the patient was picked up from.
  • Avoids mishandling and undue haste while working expeditiously to accomplish tasks.
  • Works in a confident, efficient and professional manner to provide reassurance and compassion to the patient
  • After each call, ensures that the ambulance in efficient operating condition, restocks and replaces used linens, blankets, and other supplies; cleans and sanitizes all equipment following proper disinfecting procedures; and makes careful check of all equipment , so that the ambulance is ready for the next run.
  • In accordance with local, state, and or federal regulations, decontaminates the interior of the vehicle after transport of a patient with a contagious infection or hazardous material exposure.
  • Determines that the vehicle is in proper mechanical condition by checking required items.
  • Maintains familiarity of all equipment used by AMS Ambulance
  • Ensures that the ambulance you are assigned to is washed, clean, and kept in a neat orderly condition. AMS Ambulance requires a check off to be done via the IPAD daily.
  • Participate in any AMS Ambulance required training.
  • Demonstrates that internal customers are as valuable as external customers; projects appreciation and respect for all team members.
  • Displays professional and courteous conduct and appearance. Please be mindful when using profanity. You are representing AMS Ambulance. Uniform is required, neat and tidy. Uniform shirt is to remain tucked in at all times when clocked in.
  • Diligently adheres to protection of Personal Health Information (PHI) in accordance with

HIPPA guidelines

  • Confidently leads and accepts the challenge and high degree of responsibility of transporting patients.
  • Other duties as needed or required.

Necessary Skills, attributes and requirements

  • Must have a valid South Carolina’s driver’s license to drive vehicles.
  • Must be 18 years of age to be employed and 21 years of age to drive.
  • Must be able to read and write to maintain transport log. Knowledge of the local area and ability to follow directions.
  • Must have a neat and clean appearance
  • Should be self confident and emotionally mature with a tolerance for the stress of multiple physical, intellectual and cognitive demands involving the safety and well being of patients.
  • Must be able to remain calm, efficient and effective in emergency situations.
  • Must be willing to work in situations and with people that may result in exposure to infectious waste, diseases and conditions.
  • Should demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills under all conditions and circumstances.
  • Must be able to interpret and respond to written and oral instructions
  • Must be able to withstand unlimited standing, sitting, bending and moving during working hours for the transfer of patients, pulling and pushing of wheelchairs and other equipment.
  • Must be able to withstand lifting, pushing, and pulling patients with assistance of your partner for the transfer of patient. Pulling and lifting of the stretcher empty and patient loaded.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: From $14.00 per hour
