Summary: This position will support ASTHO’s overdose preparedness, response, and surveillance efforts. These initiatives include the provision of technical assistance and capacity-building support to state health agencies on an array of social and behavioral health-related topics. These topics include, but are not limited to, preparedness for opioid emergencies (overdose surges, clinic closures), access to treatment for people with a substance use disorder, assessing the substance use prevention/surveillance policy landscape, and training coroners and medical examiners on death certification and reporting for overdose.

Anticipated salary: $63,000 Extended experience: up to $74,000 if experience exceeds expectations
Principal Functions:
Assists in the management of project activities, including meeting planning, scheduling, logistical support, and other administrative tasks necessary to support project deliverables.
Develops in-depth reports, blogs, issue briefs, newsletters, and articles for publication.
Responds to requests for assistance and information from members, affiliates, and national organizations.
Serves as an information and policy resource on overdose prevention, response and preparedness, and other related areas.
Works with state/territorial teams in preparation for meetings and helping to facilitate pre- and post-workplan development.
Assists with writing curricula, proposals, and progress reports.
Collaborates with staff across ASTHO relating to integrated programs and activities.
Supports with developing agendas, slides, and other materials, in addition to hosting large meetings, national webinars, and convenings.
Works with national partners on related programs and activities.
Develops and maintains relevant materials and links for overdose related topics and policies on the ASTHO website and newsletters.
Assists with the evaluation of project activities and outcomes.
Tracks and analyzes federal and state legislative, regulatory, and judicial activities related to project issues.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree with master’s degree in public health, public policy, and/or social work preferred.
Two years of experience related to state or local public health, substance use or overdose prevention, or state health policy.
Knowledge of and interest in state or local public health, including substance use and addiction, overdose mortality surveillance/epidemiology desirable.
Ability to research, track and analyze appropriate issues and legislation at federal and state levels using abstract concepts.
Excellent written and oral communications skills.
Strong positive interpersonal and analytic skills.
Ability to travel within the United States.
Ability to develop project measures of success, analyze progress, evaluate outcomes, and forecast needs.
Strong knowledge of online platforms such as Monday.com, Microsoft Suite, and Higher Logic.
