Reports to: Director of Development

Location: Arlington Headquarters, Los Angeles, CA 90019

SUMMARY

As a core member of the Development Department the Annual Fund Specialist will help develop, drive and implement the Annual Fund donor acquisition and retention program, grow a monthly recurring gift program, and cultivate and steward Annual Fund donor relationships. This role is critical to expanding The People Concern’s donor base and for building the pipeline for Major Gifts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies of Annual Fund donors.
  • Writes personalized donor correspondence. Includes acknowledgements of non-event and non institutional gifts of less than $5,000, tribute cards, and pledge agreements as needed.
  • Provides regular feedback and reporting on Annual Fund progress based on donor gifts and analysis of campaign effectiveness to Development Department.
  • Works in partnership with Director of Development and Director of External Affairs & Communications to create a robust communications experience for donors and prospective donors through mail pieces, newsletters, annual reports, surveys, etc.
  • Keep informed of developments in the fields of fundraising, marketing and communications, nonprofit management and governance, as well as homelessness, mental health, housing and domestic violence services and use this information to help the agency operate with initiative and innovation within the marketing and communications field
  • Conducts individual agency-wide tours with prospective supporters and volunteers, as needed
  • Administrative support for Development Department, as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required

2. At least 2 years of experience working in Development at a nonprofit organization or equivalent experience, required; experience in Annual Fund or donor relations, preferred

3. Detail oriented with excellent time management, organizational, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

4. Strategic thinker with strong analytic and problem-solving skills

5. Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of professionalism, learn quickly, take initiative and work independently

6. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects concurrently

7. Experience collaborating with a broad-range of stakeholders to complete projects

8. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel required; knowledge of Raiser's Edge or similar fundraising database preferred

9. Interest in the social services field and passion for ending homelessness and domestic violence

10. Valid CA Driver’s license, reliable car, auto insurance, and an acceptable driving record

WORK ENVIRONMENT

1. Combination of field, office and home environment

2. Travel between agency locations, and external locations, up to 25%.

3. Regularly required to sit, stand, bend; occasionally lift or carry up to 35 lbs.

4. On occasion walk or drive to different local sites

5. Will necessitate working in busy and loud environments

6. Will be exposed to elements like cold, heat, dust, noise and odor

7. May need to bend, stoop, twist, and sit throughout the day
