Summary: The primary function of the Annual Review Team Manager is to provide support and guidance in the handling of annual reviews of commercial term loans defined as investor commercial mortgages, mixed-use commercial mortgages, multi-family commercial mortgages and “stand-alone” term loans in the commercial loan portfolio. The Annual Review Team Manager will quality control the annual reviews of the team, approve annual reviews up to designated loan authority and oversee the day-to-day management of annual review production for Dime Bank’s commercial term loan portfolio detailed above. The Annual Review Team Manager will manage a team of approximately 8 underwriters. The Annual Review Team Underwriters are responsible for affirming the risk ratings of the commercial term loan portfolio and recommending risk rating upgrades and downgrades as appropriate. The Underwriters will underwrite annual review request as volume dictates.

Salary commensurate with experience, ranging from $170,000 to $185,000 annually. The exact compensation may vary based on relevant experience, skills, education, training, licensure and certifications, and location.

Responsibilities:

  • Assign annual review requests and property inspections to the appropriate parties and manage the overall workload, which includes workload balancing (backlog) and management of rush/time sensitive requests.
  • Work with Credit Administration to communicate upgrades and downgrades of the commercial term loan portfolio based on the outcome of the annual reviews conducted.
  • Work with Credit Administration to respond to external portfolio reviews and audits providing loan documentation and responses to audit inquiries as needed.
  • Ensure that declining loan performance as a result of the annual review is timely communicated to the Lending Officers, Credit Administration and Executive Management.
  • Provide clear, consistent, and regular communication to management and to the team being managed.
  • Quality control completed annual reviews and provide coaching, guidance, and training of team members.
  • Support underwriters in the evaluation of complex transaction structures.
  • Ensure adherence to the workflow process.
  • Conduct cash flow analyses (e.g., business, personal and global) to evaluate borrower's loan repayment ability.
  • Test adherence to established loan covenants and closing conditions.
  • Assess Dime’s collateral coverage by reviewing existing appraisals and updating the Loan to Value in the review.
  • In the case of fire or property damage or declining occupancy trends, order an inspection of the collateral by the property inspectors.
  • Proactively communicate with loan officers, brokers, and clients during the loan review process.
  • Participate in client meetings and conference calls when necessary.
  • Assist in collecting financial information from clients for annual term loan reviews.
  • Assist with quarterly portfolio reporting as required including updating the Criticized Classified Loan Report and reporting for Federal Loan Programs such as Freddie Mac.
  • Provide analytical support for senior management as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 8 years’ commercial banking / underwriting / lending experience in the middle market and real estate on Long Island and/or New York City; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous experience (at least 2 years) managing a team is preferred.
  • Previous experience in underwriting commercial real estate including multi-family loans and C&I lending is required.
  • Strong understanding of loan risk factors.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of credit and financial analysis techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently gather, consolidate, analyze, and summarize data and make recommendations for all levels of commercial credit relationships.
  • Good interpersonal skills working with loan officers, credit officers, clients, and executive management.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
  • Knowledge of Sageworks End-to-End software system or other End-to End systems utilized by banks is preferred.
  • Effective time management, written and oral communication skills.
