Job description
Cimarron is seeking an Architect to support the Mobile Launcher 2 (ML2) program at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The ML2 will be used, like the first mobile launcher, as the platform for assembling and testing the Space Launch System (SLS) in the Vehicle Assembly Building at the Kennedy Space Center, transporting the rocket to Launch Complex 39B, and supporting the vehicle’s launch. The platform includes various interfaces for fueling the rocket, providing power and data, and a crew access arm.
These positions are expected to last 6 months with the possibility of extension. Ideally, we would like the selected candidates to be fully onsite for the position. However, there is the possibility for the selected candidate to provide some remote support.
Key Duties:
- Originate and check basic Architectural deliverables, such as drawings, specifications, and material requisitions.
- Coordinate technical documents with/from other engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction.
- Prepare technical reports related to specific design issues.
- Manage specifically assigned project activities.
- Assist in constructability reviews.
Additional Duties for Senior-level:
- Interpret and verify industry standards, guidelines, and codes for project deliverables.
- Lead and/or participate in technical discussions with clients, regulatory authorities, suppliers, construction, etc.
- Schedule and monitor work activities.
- Support construction by dispositioning Field Change Requests (FCRs) and Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).
- Act as a mentor or coach for subordinate architects.
Required Skills, Experience, and Education:
- Due to facility security requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for consideration at this time.
- Cimarron employees are required to follow federal, state, and local laws regarding COVID-19 practices, as well as customer requirements.
- 1 or more years of related work experience.
- Experience with CADD applications such as AutoCAD or MicroStation.
- Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- General knowledge of technical responsibilities of other disciplines associated with facilities design.
- Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbal.
- Bachelor of Science or Arts in Architecture from an accredited course of study.
Additional Requirements for Senior-level:
- Have Professional Registration in Architecture.
- Work experience should emphasize the Architectural design of heavy industrial/nuclear-type facilities.
- Thorough familiarity with the provisions of IBC, UBC, UPC, NFPA, and OSHA codes.
- Thorough knowledge of Architectural deliverables, such as drawings, specifications, and material requisitions.
- Ability to resolve design issues with subordinates, suppliers, other engineering disciplines, construction, and the client.
- Ability to issue clear and concise directions to subordinates.
- Excellent listening, planning, and organizational skills.
- Ability to independently execute the detailed design of moderately complex Architectural components.
Desired Skills, Experience, and Education:
- Experience in architectural design in industrial, nuclear, nuclear waste, aerospace, and/or defense facilities.
- Previous Bechtel, NASA, and/or DOD/DOE project experience.
- Thorough familiarity with DOE standards.
- Possesses the necessary skills to present technical subjects with competence and confidence.
- Familiarity with Six Sigma or other process improvement programs
