The Assistant Activity Director assists the Director with all aspects of the Department as assigned. S/he Also assists with the development, implementation, and individualizes comprehensive care plans, supervises and evaluates Activities personnel, companion aides, and volunteers.

Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinates the activities program with the resident’s schedule of other services.
  • Develops a monthly person centered activity schedule based upon individual and group needs, interests, capabilities and cultural backgrounds.
  • Assists with development and planning of the current monthly activities schedule where it is accessible to residents and staff and can be easily read.
  • Initially develops with the resident and prepares for each resident a written plan for individual, group and independent activities in accordance with their needs, interests and capabilities.
  • Supervises and schedules companion aides, while working in activities.
  • Include in the resident’s medical chart a periodic assessment of the resident’s participation in and response to the activities program.
  • Participates as an active member of the interdisciplinary team and attends all resident care conferences (or designee).
  • Assess needs and maintain an adequate supply of materials to implement activity programs.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 17 years of age; high school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Approved by the NYS DOH as a qualified trained activity leader or occupational therapist, therapeutic recreation specialist, occupational therapy assistant or recreation assistant
  • Experience in health care preferred but not required
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Physically able to transport residents in wheelchairs
  • Ability to read and understand work assignments, as well as report verbally and provide written documentation as necessary
  • Respect for residents’ privacy and rights; display of genuine concern and empathy for the elderly
  • Able to perform tasks while upholding high standards of quality, cleanliness and kindness
