Job description
Summary:
This position, under direct supervision, performs a variety of basic clerical support duties in Alternative Learning Programs, including greeting visitors, scheduling appointments, providing information to callers, taking dictation and preparing reports and correspondence. It also assists with students as needed.
Essential Duties:
- Plans and works with staff, including teachers, in devising special strategies for operating safe and orderly Alternative Learning Programs (ALP).
- Operates and cares for office equipment and materials used for instructional purposes.
- Assists in the instruction of individual students or groups of students in all curricular areas, as directed by the teacher.
- Assists with the day to day routine operation of the program, including clerical support, monitoring and directing students during meals, transitions, emergency drills, assemblies, field trips, and to other designated places.
- Substitutes for brief period of time (i.e.; when teacher is called to the office)
- Escorts students from one location on campus to another location on campus.
- Alerts staff members to any problem or special information about an individual student.
- Assists in checking materials and portfolios, correcting papers, supervising, and testing as directed by staff members.
- Assists with student attendance procedures, record keeping, collecting money, ordering materials and other tasks, as assigned.
- Assists in keeping bulletin boards and other learning centers current.
- Assists with the behavior component, such as marking the point sheets and marking the daily home note.
- Assists in evaluating the behavioral level system.
- Assists with the daily operation of in-school suspension.
- Participates in the daily bus, car, and van transportation duties involving children's arrival and departure to and from school.
- Participates with cafeteria duty, as directed.
- Assists with random searches as needed
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Minimum
- High School diploma/G.E.D.
- No previous experience required
Desirable
- High School diploma/G.E.D. with additional specialized/technical training or some college courses in education, sociology, psychology, computer sciences.
- Prior experience working with children
Licensing / Certification Requirements:
- Not required
