GENERAL FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Camp Ranger, the Assistant Ranger assists in the general maintenance of the buildings and grounds areas. The Assistant Ranger will help with organization and care of tools, vehicles, and various supplies. During the camp’s operating months, the Assistant Ranger will assist in making repairs, completing projects, landscaping and lawncare, and cleaning of various camp facilities. During the non-operating months this position will assist in snow removal, general maintenance, and various building projects. The position is responsible for demonstrating YMCA leadership competencies to ensure the mission, purpose, image and core values of the YMCA of Greater Rochester are conveyed.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform regular lawn care tasks including mowing, trimming, and weeding.
• Perform preventative maintenance tasks for the camp
• Respond to and resolve maintenance orders.
• Ensure proper and safe operation of all equipment.
• Assist with care and maintenance of all outdoor tools, vehicles, and supplies.
• Report any damage or needed repairs to equipment, property, etc. to supervisor.
• Interact with staff, members, and general public in a professional and courteous manner
• Assist in cleaning facilities, including bathrooms, offices, locker rooms, hallways and any other assigned areas by vacuuming, mopping, scrubbing and polishing.
• Maintain a high standard of outdoor facility care and cleanliness.
• Assist in special projects at camp as needed.
• Participate and assist Camp Ranger in planning volunteer work projects.
• Attend all required meetings and trainings.
• All other duties assigned.

• Must be at least 21 years of age and possess a high school diploma or GED.
• Must have the ability to operate maintenance equipment or willingness to acquire the necessary skills.
• Must possess strong organizational skills and high attention to detail.
• Must be able to work independently, as well as collaboratively with fellow staff members.
• Should have a general understanding in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and lawncare.
• Possess good interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work as a team and independently.
• Must have clean NYS drivers license and ability to operate camp vehicles

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to work indoor and outdoor in normal environment with some exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vibrations and temperature changes.
• Ability to move within the building including movement from floor to floor and outside the building.
• Ability to lift to 75 lbs. on a repetitive basis.
• Ability to bend, stoop and squat.
• May handle chemicals as part of the daily operational duties.
