The Assistant Director will develop new or improve the existing curricula for the Day Program. He/she/they will develop activities that assists with, maintain, or enhance skills of individuals in all day services option programs which will include but is not limited to daily living skills, literacy, job-building skills, social skills, and community outings.

They will conduct research and make recommendations concerning programming and planning. They will also work with Community/Volunteer Developer and Case Managers and administrators to evaluate existing curricula and assess the quality of instruction provided by direct support staff. They must have a desire to enhance and improve the quality of life for the individuals support at the Day Program in addition to upholding the mission of the agency. The Assistant Director will work well in large groups and be able to teach, guide, and mentor direct support staff on best practices to support individuals with disabilities.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assists the Senior Director of Day Supported Options with the reviews of incoming referrals to the day program. Evaluates and determines skill set and follow-up services and delivery of services on an as needed basis
  • Will be responsible to keeping inventory, maintaining, and ordering supplies. This will involve ordering materials and supplies as needed, conducting inventory duties, insure that equipment and rooms cleaned and serviced when necessary.
  • Plan, coordinate transportation for monthly outings as well as facilitating outing as needed. Follow internal procedures to insure safety of individuals while accessing the community.
  • Responsible for creating and implementing innovative, appropriate, and meaningful curriculum based activities opportunities planned out over a months time, ensuring that staff are providing current quality programming.
  • Work closely with direct support staff to teach and promote enhanced program performances by providing training on how to adapt approaches and styles to accommodate the various needs of the individuals.
  • Track and maintain attendance records for the individuals in the day program this includes monitoring for accuracy, calculating units and entering units into the DDS application for attendance, and collaborating with the Business Office to confirm accuracy.
  • Supports individuals with personal needs when necessary.
  • Assist with program and agency wide program delivery and special projects as they occur.
  • Supervises self-medication of individuals to insure the medication is taken at the prescribed time. Administers medication to those people unable to self-medicate; completes Medication Administration Course, completes recertification requirements.
  • Maintains up-to-date training commensurate with the position.
  • Manage staffing coverage and account for inadequate staffing levels or job action must be available to assist with direct individual support.
  • Assist Senior Director with payroll functions, including monitoring time and attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Day Supported Options
  • Regular and punctual attendance is an essential part of the job.

Additional Job Functions:

  • Provides training supports to individuals on accessing public transportation.
  • Participates in agency committees, as needed e.g. Safety Committee, United Way Committee.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties: supervises individuals in lobby and transports individuals to and from volunteer activities on an as needed basis.
  • Requires working knowledge of company and job oriented procedures, e.g., all safety procedures at community and volunteer sites, tasks completed at community jobsites, Department of Labor regulations.
