I. Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.
The assistant editor is responsible for a combination of administrative and editorial tasks. Administrative responsibilities include creating contracts, assets management, creating the monthly print-to-web document for digital, as well as fielding reader questions, shipping and receiving mail and products, and onboarding freelance workers. Editorial responsibilities include editing recipes for and coordinating the layout for the monthly cookbook, writing single topic food stories, fact-checking, copy fitting, product procurement for stories, and assisting the edit team as needed.
II. Essential Job Functions
35% Editorial content production: Research and write one-pagers; edit cookbook, enter recipes into the CMS, source products for product roundups; coordinate the creation of QR codes, and other cross-platform assets including the print-to-web spreadsheet for bhg.com; and assist other editors as needed.
30% Communication and contracts: Assist with monthly charge offs, contracts, invoices, and fielding of reader feedback, office mail, and sales and marketing queries.
30% Asset and file management: Assist with managing story lineups, routing/schedule templates, contact lists, indexes, and archival files on various platforms (internal servers, Google, Woodwing, PubStudio).
5% Misc: Assist in onboarding freelance workers and intern, creating and updating standard operating procedures.
III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, English, Creative Writing, or related field, or equivalent training and/or experience
Experience:
- 2 or more years experience as an editorial intern, editorial assistant, or administrative assistant at a magazine or media or communications company; 1 to 2 years food editorial experience beneficial
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient in word processing, email, text editing, file-sharing, and collaboration software (such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Docs/Sheets, Dropbox, Webex, Zoom, and Slack)
- Detail oriented, organized, eager to learn
- Collaborative, creative energy, and excellent interpersonal skills
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: Up to $50,000.00 per year
