The Assistant Manager for Information Services is responsible for assisting the Information Services Manager with managing staff, projects, customer service, information services scheduling and all related activities, public computer/technology services and other public service needs of the Main Library’s Information Services Department.

This is a full-time exempt position. The candidate will work a mix of days, nights and weekends.
Overview of Essential Functions
- Assists in planning, organizing, administering, and evaluating the activities of the department and its staff.
- Schedules Children’s and Teen departments’ desk schedules with support from Children’s Services and Teen Services managers.
- Serves as supervisory and scheduling backup to the Information Services Manager for Public Service adult and circulation services points, as needed.
- Supports “ASK a Librarian” service and all aspects of telephone and online reference services.
- Collaborates with the Adult Services Manager and Assistant Manager and the Collection Services Manager on collection maintenance activities as they relate to the Information Services department.
- Supports department staff training and professional development; administers discipline as required.
- Contributes to the overall quality of service within the department, Main Library and ACPL by developing and coordinating work teams and by reviewing, recommending and implementing improved policies, procedures and services in relation to best practices and the changing needs of the community.
- Assists in developing and implementing goals, objectives and work standards for the department.
- Assists patrons with reference questions in person, by phone, and virtually.
- Assists patrons with use of public equipment, computers, and the Integrated Library System (ILS).
- Handles customer service escalations in the absence of the Manager.
- Assists in the preparation and distribution of reports and statistics on department activities.
- Participates in Library meetings and project teams as well as represents ACPL in meetings with representatives of professional, business and community organizations.
- Maintains awareness of current library trends and developments through professional reading, conference attendance and organization participation.
Required Qualification
- Master’s Degree in Library Sciences
- Two (2) years of professional librarian experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Must apply for and maintain Indiana Public Librarian Certification, earning 75 LEU's (Library Education Units) within five years. For more information click here.

- Compensation starts at $47K per year and goes up from there based on previous work experience.
