Assistant Production Editor, Running Press
Job description
Hachette Book Group’s Perseus division is seeking an Assistant Production Editor to assist in managing its Running Press trade and licensed book, stationery, and mini-kit programs; support the managing editor and production editorial staff; and be responsible for various administrative duties. Philadelphia location is preferred; other locations considered.
Responsibilities:
- Manage a mix of RP Minis titles, stationery products, revised editions/secondary formats, and reprint corrections through production
- Support senior production editors and managing editor
- Perform e-book quality review
- Liaise with editorial, design, and production regarding production schedules; occasionally liaises with authors
- Complete electronic manuscript preparation, including style coding
- Hire freelance copyeditors and proofreaders
- Copyedit and proofread jacket and cover materials from original copy through final proof
- Perform departmental administrative tasks such as CIP data submissions, freelancer contract maintenance, invoicing, etc.
- Attend relevant department and interdepartmental meetings
Requirements:
- 1+ year relevant experience in trade publishing or an internship
- Proven copyediting and proofreading skills and a familiarity with electronic workflow
- Working knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style
- Strong computer/MS Word skills; proficiency with Track Changes a plus
- Effective organizational skills and proven ability to work well under pressure with tight deadlines
