Assistant Professor of Sociology, General Faculty
Job description
The University of Virginia’s Sociology Department invites applications for a one-year non-tenure track assistant professor, expected to begin August 25, 2023. The initial one-year appointment may be renewable for an additional year contingent upon funding, satisfactory performance, and departmental teaching needs.
Subject areas of particular need include, but are not limited to social problems, inequality, criminology, and gender. The core responsibilities of this position include teaching six courses per year, three each during the spring and fall terms.
The successful applicant will hold a PhD in sociology at the time of the appointment.
This position will remain open till filled and review of applications will begin on May 05, 2023 . The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Ph.D. or terminal degree. ABD may be accepted.
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
