Job description
Summary
The engineer will have a role in developing substation standards for AVANGRID. Write engineering and construction specifications, create and maintain design libraries for substations including specifications and bill of materials. Work with administrative and general direction from supervision. Follow updates in research and developments taking place in the power industry, through training and industry associations. The engineer will work with teams/projects that solve complex substation equipment/design problems taking a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions.
Responsibilities
- Performs engineering analysis of the existing and incoming substation designs and equipment.
- Assists in specifying and finalizing technical documents within the department.
- Performs economic analyses of engineering alternatives.
- Aids the department with contacting vendors and equipment manufacturers.
- Assists in engineering discussions.
- Familiarizes with existing substation designs and layouts.
- Training and continuing education courses will be performed.
- Contribute to the development & execution of Departmental or Divisional strategy. Anticipates internal/external business issues & recommend process improvements.
- Create and maintain design libraries for medium and high voltage substations agree with department plan. Develop plan to maintain libraries based on lessons learnt, new practices and industry trends.

Skills and Requirements
Education & Experience Required:
Bachelor’s degree (B.S. in Electrical or Power Engineering) with 0-5 years of related work experience.
An Associate degree (A.A.S in Electrical Engineering Technology) with 0-3 years of related work experience.
