Bankruptcy & Legal Collections Assistant
Job description
The Bankruptcy & Legal Collections Assistant provides daily support to the Legal Department assisting with bankruptcy file preparation and processing, collection-related litigation, departmental record keeping, and file maintenance. This position requires solid written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong research skills.
- Receives and supports the Legal Department’s handling of routine bankruptcy filings, including bankruptcy notices, dismissals, and discharges. Completes the preliminary account and file preparation for new bankruptcies to include account file maintenance and claim submissions, processes trustee payments, and handles the wrap-up work involved with the discharge or dismissal of a bankruptcy case, including appropriate notifications to the applicable lines of business. Ensures proper policies, procedures, risk mitigation activities, and operating controls are followed. Reports gaps in policies, procedures, and operating controls to leadership to ensure member impact and risk is mitigated. (45%)
- Supports WPCU Operations by assisting with handling the Legal Collections inbox and fielding bankruptcy and collections-related Partner, Member, and attorney inquiries, and performs related daily tasks, including conducting partner and member follow‐up via telephone, instant message, or e‐mail as needed. (25%)
- Assists with monitoring and tracking of delinquent accounts referred to outside counsel for legal action and supports the corporate attorneys and paralegals with assessing and reviewing potential legal obstacles. Assists with the monitoring and tracking of all case filings and deadlines in any legal actions in which the corporate attorneys appear as attorney of record. (15%)
- Provides general routine legal support and back up for the Credit Union, and the paralegals and attorneys within the Legal Department as needed. (15%)
Required Skills
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent or ten (10) years equivalent work experience with experience in handling teller transactions or some other customer service-related position or equivalent combination of experience and education required.
- Experience in an office environment, preferably utilizing clerical skills, required.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience working in legal or financial services fields.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary.
- Demonstrated ability to learn and apply appropriate software applications to job functions including credit union core system and loan platform.

This position is an "in office" position at our Headquarters in Beavercreek, Ohio.

Pay: $21.00 - $30.00 per hour
