Bright Minds Youth Development, Inc. (BMYD) is sponsoring a summer camp for children ages 5-16, from June 6th to July 29th. We are looking for some amazing Camp Instructors to assist us in developing and mentoring these wonderful children at the following locations.

Job Summary

The Camp Instructor is responsible for planning, coordinating, teaching, and carrying out activities and guiding campers in their personal growth and daily living skills within the mission of BMYD. The camp Instructor will work Monday-Friday. Times will be determined by the Director.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • The Instructor oversees the day to day operation of their respective class within the mission and outcomes of BMYD
  • Establishes a class that provides a safe, fun experience for the campers. Know/adhere to the emergency and evacuation plan.
  • Responsible for supervising/evaluating staff (volunteer 1-2) and campers within your classroom.
  • Ability to observe classroom staff/camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce safety regulations and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.
  • Follows and maintains program quality, policy, procedures, parent concerns, and complaints.
  • Responsible for getting supply list and class needs to the camp director within the guidelines set regarding ordering and supply protocols.
  • Assist in the preparation of camp activities and daily lesson plans for campers. Provide a progression of all camp activities, arts, crafts, sports, health, enrichment, weekly themes, etc. within the framework of individual/group interests and abilities.
  • Process all forms accurately and promptly but not limited to accident reports, equipment, staff paperwork, and any other forms required by the BMYD, state, and local authorities (CPR, first aid, background screens, etc.)
  • Participate in pre-camp setup, training, parent orientation, meetings, etc. Note: these duties may take place after hours and occasionally on weekends. These are considered volunteer hours.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings. Participate as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, all-camp activities and camp functions.
  • Be a role model to staff and volunteers in your attitude and behavior.
  • existing logistics and programs on an ongoing basis, assist camp coordinator to develop methods to improve program and service delivery

NOTE: This job description has been developed as an outline of basic responsibilities. The Camp Instructor will report to the Camp Director. Additional duties may be assigned by the Camp Director and/or Executive Director.

Qualifications and Skills

Camp instructors must be a minimum of 21 years of age and have a least 1-year of experience working in a non-profit camp environment. Have at least 2 years of experience working with children. Possess a valid driver's license. Must demonstrate effective successful interpersonal, communication, organizational, and leadership skills. Able to take direction and multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Able to inspire, motivate, act and make decisions independently, act quickly and confidently in a crisis, always with the best interest of the campers and organization in mind. A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is recommended but not required. Current CPR and first aid. Ability to pass a required background check
