Hillcrest Commons Nursing & Rehabilitation Center has been part of the Pittsfield community since 1995, providing short-term rehabilitation, long-term skilled nursing care, and specialized dementia care in Western Massachusetts. Job Description and Responsibilities :

The Behavioral Health Specialists are the frontline facilitators of a safe and therapeutic environment, complete with meaningful activity offered for all residents served. The behavioral health specialist promote a highly structured environment for residents daily, with the constant goal of improving individual’s behavior/quality of life, specifically through meaningful activity and a safe environment. Behavioral health specialists must remain up to date with specialized training and display appropriate interactional skills with the residents daily.

  • Facilitation and development of therapeutic groups such as anger management, social skills, vocational skills, money management, community reentry trips, cooking groups etc.
  • Intervention in behavioral incidents.
  • Assist the program director in development and implementation of care plans.
  • Assist the program director in staff education and in-services.
  • Responsible for opening and managing the reward store.
  • Documentation of group activities and behavioral incidents
  • Reinforcement of individuals for participation and pro-social behavior.
  • The behavioral specialist will act as a role model for residents (pro-social behavior, group participation) and staff (how to intervene in incidents, how to interact with residents, how to reinforce effectively).

Requirements :

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in psychology, therapeutic recreation, or related field preferred.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience working with individuals presenting with psychiatric impairment, marked by behavioral disturbance preferred
  • Experience with activity facilitation for individuals with diverse needs, highly preferred.
  • Survey experience, as overseen by DPH, highly preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Up to $20.00 per hour
