POSITION SUMMARY

Addiction Treatment Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) will assist in deliver care throughout Wellbridge and are responsible for providing support for the day-to-day counseling and nursing needs of a licensed inpatient medically supervised stabilization and withdrawal program, rehabilitation program and reintegration program. Carries out the Wellbridge vision, promotes service standards and creates a patient-focused caring environment while addressing and meeting the individual needs of all patients. Fosters an environment of collaboration and respect with physicians, nurses, therapists, counselors and other healthcare team members.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical

  • Search client bags and person at the time of the admission and follows all intake procedures.
  • Orientates new clients to the facility.
  • Instructs and confirms the programs rules and regulations to new admissions.
  • Assists in supervision of clients while completing hourly rounds to ensure safety and wellbeing.
  • Ensures daily schedule is adhered to.
  • Utilizes company vehicles for transportation of clients.
  • Completes and forwards copy of Incident Reports and any other safety/risk issues to supervisor.
  • Monitors and completes all urine drug screens as ordered.
  • Assists Nursing staff in tasks as directed.
  • Documents any behavioral issues and reports to appropriate clinical staff members as needed.
  • Build positive relationships with clients and staff.
  • Provides a safe and therapeutic environment to all staff and patients.
  • Recognizes, responds to and assists in psychiatric crisis situations and provide the intervention necessary.
  • Responds and assists in medical emergency situations as directed and needed.
  • Communicates effectively with client and interdisciplinary team regarding client needs.
  • Assists with chart documentation and compliance.
  • Adheres to all program policies and procedures while ensuring client safety at all times.
  • Performs other duties assigned.

Supervision and Support

  • Model the Wellbridge philosophy of patient-centeredness, empowerment, and cultural proficiency and seek supervision from clinical staff
  • Maintains a safe and caring environment for patients that is conducive to positive health teaching, and maintenance; patient and family expectations of care
  • Recognizes the need for patient care to be delivered in a culturally sensitive manner and models sensitivity to all staff
  • Seeks and engages in supervision from other clinicians and peers

Collaboration

  • Support a culture of high quality of care across organization
  • Work collaboratively with the Senior Clinical Director and other clinical team members to execute patient treatment plans
  • Support efforts of Wellbridge research team to implement program improvement
  • Manage and promote strong relationships with peers, other clinical and research staff
  • Provide crisis support to other clinicians and patients, as needed and in emergency situations

Planning and Coordination

  • Participate in regular clinical team meetings
  • Work closely with the clinical and nursing teams to coordinate services to patients
  • Makes recommendations for growth and development of organization

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications

  • Four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and general knowledge of substance use and/or mental health disorders.
  • BLS, required; ACLS or other certification, as required by department. Certification must be obtained within one (1) year of employment.
  • 12 hours of Introductory Training in the Addictions to be completed within one (1) year of employment.
  • Familiarity with all relevant healthcare standards: OASAS, ASAM,
  • Demonstrated communication, critical thinking and interpersonal skills, particularly in stressful situations
  • Current NYS driver’s license and clean driving record

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency with electronic records
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Completion of prescribed courses in an approved training program in mental health or social health care.
  • Specific experience with stabilization and withdrawal management care and/or rehabilitation settings
  • Knowledge of medications used in addiction treatment
  • Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
