DPR Construction is looking for a Leave Specialist to be a part of a dynamic Human Resources team whose mission is to Take Care of our People. The Leave Specialist will oversee and administer the leave requests for our Admin and Craft populations, under the supervision of the Benefits Team. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, employee requests for leave (various types of leaves such as short-term and/or long-term disability plans, pregnancy leave, parental leave, sabbatical leave, FMLA qualifying leave and personal leave), reasonable accommodation, coordination across intersecting leaves, ensuring compliance with all applicable local, state & federal laws, and an unwavering focus on enhancing the employee experience before, during and after a leave of absence.
This role will require that the person work a minimum of 2-3 days in-person, in a business unit where a Regional Human Resources Partner currently is located (Edison, NJ; Baltimore, Maryland; Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina; Houston, Texas; San Diego, California or Redwood City, California).
Essential Functions
- Employees main point of contact regarding their requests for an approved leave of absence and/or modified work schedules. Ensures that employees are aware of their responsibilities and of any documentation and notice period required.
- Expected to be DPR’s subject matter expert on all company and federal/state leave programs.
- Provides employee guidance and support to ensure the leave time requested does not feel unnecessarily complicated.
- Manages the FMLA leave administration process to ensure compliance with federal guidelines. This includes gathering and completing all required paperwork, determining leave eligibility, use of federal law provided forms, reviewing medical certification, and accounting for intermittent and reduced schedule leave use.
- Maintains consistent communication with employees during the approved leave to ensure smooth and timely return to work.
- Works closely with Regional Human Resources Partner to ensure all the “Right Who’s” are aware of a leave and return to work plan and timing.
- Drives awareness and engagement towards greater utilization of New Parent and Working Parent coaching benefit programs.
- Advises managers and employees on the intersection of available leave programs with accrued paid time off, workers’ compensation, or potentially short-term and long-term disability benefits.
- Utilizes Monday.com platform for leave tracking which is the main communication channel to keep internal partners on Human Resources and Payroll teams updated on employee leave status.
- Facilitates requests for a reasonable accommodation and engages in the interactive process to discuss leave options.
- Administers time-off programs now and in a future as we continue to build a Most Admired Employee Value Proposition (EVP).
- Develop and maintain Best Practices on how DPR is building a truly great employee experience before, during, and after a leave of absence.
- Drafts and/or recommends revisions to company leave policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Maintains complete and accurate records and ensures confidentiality of leave and accommodation requests in accordance with specified legal requirements and retention of documentation.
- Performs other related duties as assigned and may be inclusive of additional leave programs as DPR enhances our Employee Value Proposition (EVP) for both our Admin and Craft population.
Competencies
- Extensive knowledge of the leave requirements and other legal protections afforded by the FMLA, ADAAA, and other applicable state paid leave laws
- Must be fluent (verbal and written) in both English and Spanish
- Proactive in identifying, analyzing gaps and problem-solving
- Embodies a “concierge” approach to provide an employee experience which is Most Admired
