POSITION SUMMARY

The Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) maintains clinical equipment through the effective use of TRC’s medical equipment maintenance procedures and practices. This position exists in a human health effects research setting that allows for schedule flexibility and an excellent work-life balance that is often unattainable in a hospital setting. Otherwise, all responsibilities of this BMET position are the same as those experienced in a hospital/healthcare delivery system.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS

  • Performs assigned duties in accordance with current policies and procedures, including medical equipment inspections, calibrations, corrective/preventive maintenance (CM/PM), and safety evaluations
  • Demonstrates exceptional customer service by interacting effectively with physicians, medical staff, scientific investigators, engineers, and other associated technical disciplines
  • Communicates routinely with supervisory personnel on the status of equipment repair and maintenance activities along with immediately reporting all operational safety issues
  • Installs, calibrates, troubleshoots and repairs most classes of clinical research equipment
  • Interprets schematics, wiring diagrams, circuit descriptions, and manufacturer’s service manuals
  • Assists in the evaluation and purchasing of new equipment, and related accessories and supplies
  • Assists with the administrative responsibilities of the department, including work order control, maintenance history records, PM and safety inspection requests, and repair parts inventory records
  • Employs automated hardware, software, diagnostic service software appropriate to the equipment being serviced, and document test results using computerized methods
  • Orders parts and supplies necessary for servicing of medical equipment
  • Maintains technical literature library
  • Completes assigned work in a timely manner
  • Works under minimal supervision and generally organizes and prioritizes workload
  • Supervises and maintains quality control of services provided by outside vendors/service organizations
  • Inspects incoming equipment for compliance with codes, standards, and manufacturer’s recommendations
  • Maintains knowledge of current regulatory agencies, and the policies, codes, standards, and regulations that apply to clinical equipment
  • Maintains timely, accurate and thorough documentation required by management, as outlined in current policies and procedures
  • Demonstrates initiative and concern for planning, time utilization, and cost containment.

Requirements

  • AAS Degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, or equivalent Military training or experience
  • Technical Certification (CBET) preferred
  • Two-years of experience in the repair and maintenance of medical equipment (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted)
  • Proficient in all skills required of a BMET I or II
  • Ability to lift 55 lbs
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Organizational skills
  • Computer skills (MS Word, Excel) required
  • Valid USA driver’s license required.
