Position: Camp Maintenance Assistant

Location: BCNY Camp @ Harriman State Park, 553 Arden Valley Road, Southfields, NY 10975

Salary Range: $6,000 (with additional compensation for training & prep)

Employment Type: Seasonal, Residential, July 5-August 11, 2023

Mandatory Orientation: June 26-30, 2023


About Us

The Boys’ Club of New York (BCNY), founded in 1876, is a youth development organization with the mission to empower boys and young men through outside of school programming at our clubhouses and our residential summer camp in Harriman State Park. BCNY’s Harriman Base Camp’s vision is to foster emotional, physical and ethical growth through thoughtful and diverse activities and programs for boys and young men age 10 through 17. BCNY campers will develop life skills and awareness of social responsibility through outdoor exploration and education. While appreciating their natural surroundings, they will become active stewards of the environment.


Job Summary

The Camp Maintenance Assistant will report to the Maintenance Supervisor. BCNY is seeking a Camp Maintenance Assistant to maintain a safe and clean work area at all times. Must have ability to work independently and have experience working in basic landscaping, complete basic painting, handle multiple tasks at one time, interact effectively in one-on-one and or group settings and build rapport to foster teamwork. The successful candidate will be able to work well with people of diverse personalities and backgrounds. Some of the summer camp tasks will include managing garbage, filling water coolers, cleaning and monitoring campers' restrooms, assist maintenance staff with light duty repairs, and maintain temporary water sinks. Other duties as assigned. Must be available for mandatory training sessions in June.


Job Requirements

Summer Camp employees are not required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, however, BCNY strongly encourages all employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and obtain a booster shot.


Responsibilities

Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:

  • The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
  • 70% Performs maintenance tasks in areas of plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting, preventative maintenance, and grounds
  • 10% Assists with coordinating projects
  • 5% Evaluates needs and recommends action plans
  • 5% Maintains preventative maintenance records
  • 5% Maintains maintenance areas
  • 5% General base camp support
  • Other job duties as assigned.


Education Work Experience and Other Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Maintenance related experience (2 year minimum)
  • Carpentry, plumbing, electrical, landscaping, and mechanical experience (Preferred)
  • Valid Driver’s License (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of safety precautions, system, and codes
  • OSHA 30 Training (Preferred)

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Physical requirements of this position include:

  • Ability to lift 70 lbs
  • Repetitively lift up to 50 lbs with a range from floor level to above shoulder height
  • Walking and standing on concrete floors for a period of up to two hours
  • Free range of motion including twisting, bending, stooping, and climbing on step ladders
  • Must possess the ability to use hand and power tools, normal vision, hearing and sense of smell.

Requirements

  • Physical exam and be up to date on all required immunizations.
  • all staff must provide proof of their MMR According to NY State
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Have a clean and valid driver license
