Job Summary: The Campus Mail Clerk Entry is the first step in the Campus Mail Clerk Job Family. Under moderate supervision, the Campus Mail Clerk is responsible for carrying out the services of the campus mail area.

Performs duties necessary to provide high quality customer service to all retail customers. May also assist in duties to support other mail center functions. Provides exceptional customer service to all customers. Loads, unloads, handles, and/or sorts packages by hand, including lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying and placing, in a safe and efficient manner. Routes packages to the intended recipient by using a computerized package tracking system. Checks outbound mail and packages for correct postage; ensures they are in proper condition for mailing. Answers questions regarding mail regulations and procedures, postage rates and mail boxes. Retrieves packages for customers and ensures accurate transfer to intended recipient. Obtains signatures from recipients of accountable mail or packages. Performs various cash register operations (selling postal products/services, making change, calculating rates, processing outbound mail/package items, balancing the cash register, etc.). Assists all customers with any mail related issues. Serves as frontline contact for the department and has a direct impact on first impression, positive customer interaction, and the image of Campus Mail Services. May be assigned to or rotate through various areas and positions within the operation.
Required Minimum Qualifications: A high school diploma or GED. Some general office, mail center, customer service, or sales clerk experience. Part of the Campus Mail Clerk Job Family.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must be able to work in a physical, fast-paced position that involves continual lifting and lowering packages that typically weigh 25-35 lbs. Must have the ability to lift and carry heavy objects that could exceed 50 pounds. Must have the ability to lift and carry heavy objects that could exceed 50 pounds with assistance and the use of hand trucks. Must be able to lift, handle and maneuver the tools, materials and supplies of the job.
Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
Skills and Knowledge: Basic computer and keyboard skills (data entry, portable data collection devices, etc.). Ability to learn the mail center's Point-of-Sale system within the first few weeks of employment. Ability to learn the University's mail sort scheme and mailstop codes within the first few weeks of employment. Ability to deal with the public in a respectful manner while providing exceptional customer service. Ability to work without consistent supervision and follow up. Strong sense of urgency and a commitment to excellence. Ability to use various resources including computer systems/software applications to process misdirected mail and/or mail forwarding services.
Preferred Qualifications: Three (3) years of working experience in a position that involves mail sorting, mail delivery, or mail processing as part of primary job responsibilities. Advanced knowledge and proven track record in providing high quality customer service.
