The Opportunity – Catering Sales Manager – Social Market
In this role, you will secure and service Social Catering Business opportunities, through active and effective promotion, networking, solicitation, and prospecting, while maintaining Townsend standards and maximizing revenue/profit potential.
Ensures business is turned over properly and in a timely fashion for proper service delivery. Conducts day-to-day activities related to catering sales with a focus on building long-term, value-based customer relationships that enable achievement of sales objectives.
REPORTS TO: Managing Director
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Actively solicits new business within the market and response to inquiries with the intention of confirming profitable catering business and achieving annual goals.
  • Respond to request for proposal (RFP’s) and all incoming calls within the same business day.
  • Conducts site visits and entertains planners of social events and weddings.
  • Identifies the group’s budget and upsells food and beverage to increase the average check, while taking into consideration the personality and background of the group.
  • Uncovers as much information as possible from the event planner regarding the group’s habits in order to aid other hotel outlets in their staffing i.e. Front Desk.
  • Handles all aspects of the event including diagrams, BEOs, in-person meetings and procurement of event supplies as needed.
  • Prepares for and discusses major groups at BEO Meetings
  • Greets contact on-site and makes introduction of Banquet manager to ensure a smooth transition to that department.
  • Helps coordinate vendor drop off and set up.
  • Checks periodically with customers throughout the day to ensure smooth operation. Pre-checks to ensure meal functions are handled as directed.
  • Remains available on a priority basis to handle in-house customer needs.
  • Keep Catering & Banquet teams promptly and fully informed of all problems or unusual matter so prompt corrective action can be taken where appropriate.
  • Develop new business relationships; call on existing catering only bookings for future bookings from market segment.
  • Makes calls to promote free-standing catering business in the social and nonprofit market.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in hospitality preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a catering sales position
  • Experience in a luxury hotel/catering facility preferred.
  • Requires ability to work a flexible schedule
  • Must be able to communicate English verbally and in written communication
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Requires daily use with Opera Cloud, Social Tables, Wedding Wire
  • Travel 0-10% required
  • Office environment
  • Requires the ability to infrequently lift up to 30lbs
