Job Purpose: The Patient Services Specialist (PSS), under the Supervision of the Medical Office Manager, will provide in-person assistance to the individuals and families in need of help with both registering as a new patient and the insurance application process for Sonoma County Indian Health Project, Inc. (SCIHP). The PSS will interview applicants and determine eligibility for SCIHP services. Will be available to support individuals and families with understanding SCIHP services and their health insurance options. This position will be responsible for initiating, tracking, following up, processing and reporting the status of all benefit applications.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or general education degree (GED); or two (2) years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Prior experience performing clerical duties, including substantial public contact with patients in a health care setting preferred.
- Achieve the Certified Enrollment Counselor Certificate within three (3) months of hire.
- Must maintain a valid, unrestricted California Driver’s license, be insurable under SCIHP’s automobile insurance, and meet insurance requirements regarding driver record in order to utilize GSA vehicles.
- Must comply with Federal and California laws regarding the use and disclosure of individually identifiable health information, with the provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH).
- Ensure the confidentiality of all applications, records, and any information received.
- Basic interviewing skills for the purpose of gathering information and explaining policies or clarifying information.
- Greet all patients and visitors in a warm and friendly manner.
- Demonstrates knowledge of available health benefit programs with Medi-Cal and/or Covered California plans.
- Establish and maintain constructive working relationships.
- Must possess current CPR certification or attend a SCIHP CPR training to become certified.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical and background investigation.
- Must pass Covered California background investigation.
- Must provide proof of completed COVID vaccines and booster.
