Mosaic Materials is an Alameda, CA, based small business developing a carbon capture technology to address global warming and climate change through direct air capture (DAC) of carbon dioxide. At the heart of Mosaic’s technology are metal-organic framework (MOF) solid sorbents that increase the efficiency and reduce the cost of carbon capture by ~50% relative to competing technologies. Mosaic is currently scaling production and implementation of our solid sorbent based DAC technology and looking for highly motivated, curious individuals to join our team.

Role Description

Mosaic Materials is looking for a detail-oriented process technician to join our Materials Research and Production Team. This person will be responsible for operating and maintaining Mosaic’s metal-organic framework (MOF) production process, which includes large-scale synthesis, filtration, weighing of chemicals, characterization of material through various analytical instruments, cleaning and maintenance of process equipment, maintaining batch records and SOPs, ordering supplies, and receiving of materials. The candidate will implement in-process characterization on current manufacturing process and maintain results on a database. The candidate will work with team of chemists, technicians, and scientists on internal development projects with the opportunity for growth into the laboratory leadership team. Overall, candidate should be safety oriented and organized.

Key Functions

  • Responsible for executing standard operating procedures (SOPs) and completing batch records for production of material
  • Makes sure that process equipment is clean, functional, and available for operation
  • Perform in-process characterization of raw materials and finished goods
  • In collaboration with QA/QC team members, responsible for quality of raw materials and finished goods
  • Provides feedback on and contributes to development of new protocols, processes and experiments
  • Order and receive supplies for materials lab
  • Manages hazardous waste disposal and record keeping for facility
  • Adhere to Mosaic Materials’ safety guidelines

Preferred Background & Experience

  • Associate’s Degree and at least >2 years lab/manufacturing experience.
  • Comfortable working with chemicals and large liquid volumes.
  • Familiarity with handling and disposing of Hazardous Materials, and a willingness to learn associated management and record keeping practices
  • Must have a high degree of mechanical aptitude. Knowledge or experience with process scale manufacturing equipment is highly desirable.
  • Willing and fast learner who can train on new equipment and processes
  • Experience performing chemical analyses.
  • Fluent with Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel) and GSuite.

Bonus Skills

  • Experience in logistics or managing inventories.
  • Familiarity with porous solid characterization (TGA, BET Surface area)
  • Familiarity with solvothermal syntheses
  • Familiarity with formulation and extrusion processes

Work Environment

Work is carried out in a manufacturing and development laboratory where you will be working with chemicals. Employees work in an environment in which safety, environmental and health concerns may demand constant attention and are required to follow the appropriate safety protocols. The employee will work with powders and may be required to wear a particle respirator and other personal protection equipment (PPE). Elevated noise levels can arise due to large working equipment and therefore earplugs or other hearing protection may be required.

Physical Demands

The employee will be required to work near moving mechanical parts and equipment. The employee will be required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms frequently. Employee may need to lift boxes, drums or pieces of equipment (20-50lbs) on a daily basis. The noise level in the work environment can be moderate to high. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to talk or hear regularly.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Position may be subject to US export control under ITAR or EAR.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
