Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts is a leading California private healthcare college with campuses in Sacramento, Concord, San Mateo, Modesto, Fresno, and Van Nuys, offering an extensive variety of nursing and allied healthcare programs such as: Vocational Nurse, Psychiatric Technician and Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN to BSN pathway) as well as Medical Assistant, Dental Assistant and Phlebotomy Technician and healthcare programs: Associate of Science in Physical Therapist Assistant, Ultrasound Technology, MRI, Radiologic Technology, and Bachelor of Science in Diagnostic Medical Imaging.
We are currently seeking an Online Part-time Chemistry Instructor to teach as part of our General Education for Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts. The Chemistry Instructor is responsible for teaching the online courses and evaluating students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach related courses; Chemistry
- Maintain accurate updated attendance and grades for all in their courses
- Identify and refer at-risk students to specific academic support services
- Ensure course and program learning outcomes are delivered as defined by the syllabus
- Provide documentation of continuing professional growth in educational theory or techniques and in field; instruction in educational theory or techniques may include such things as college courses, seminars or in-service on topics such as learning theory, curriculum design, test construction, teaching methodology, or assessment techniques
- Assist Program Director in program evaluation and planning
- Suitably challenge, engage, serve and communicate with students to encourage their participation and learning while maintaining mutual value and respect
- Respond to student questions and concerns on a timely basis
- Complete and maintain an Individual Development Plan/Summary
- Maintain credentials as required by accrediting councils/agencies and regulatory bodies
Requirements:
- Master’s degree or higher in field, or a graduate degree plus 18 semester credits in subject area.
- Three or more years of experience in the field
- At least a year of experience teaching Online asynchronous classes
- Comfort with online learning management systems (ideally experience with Moodle)
- Experience in curriculum creation or instructional design, with understanding of backwards design, mastery- or competency-based learning (align to objectives and outcomes), Bloom’s Taxonomy, adult learning theory, and neurodiversity considerations.
- Strong desire to see students succeed, with experience reaching out to help struggling students.
- Excellent communication skills, especially written, to clearly communicate information while conveying a positive, encouraging tone of voice in writing.
- Ability to learn new technology quickly, both for onboarding and staying current.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent critical thinking skills.
