The Role
The Chief of Staff is a high-visibility strategic leader who supports the President with effective decision-making, project management, and execution of strategic initiatives across all university workstreams. The Chief of Staff provides the organizational framework under which senior leadership collaborates to implement the university's mission and strategic plan; and leads the development of systems by which the university measures progress toward key goals and overall success on a consistent basis.

Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a member of the President's cabinet, reporting to the President
- Build and lead the daily operations of the executive office
- Build and run cadence for leadership meetings, board meetings, and staff retreats
- Lead cross-functional strategic initiatives, facilitate special projects, and ensure action items are executed on behalf of the President
- Operate at a tactical, strategic, and operational level, handling the oversight of highest priority projects and initiatives
- Act as an extension of the President and information funnel, filter, and facilitator with internal and external stakeholders
- Proactively follow up with cabinet members to support goal achievement. Provide resources, recommendations, and guidance to the leadership team in order for the University to achieve its goals
- Promote team integration as well as cross-functional communication and collaboration
- Manage key relationships and build a process to track and nurture key stakeholders
- Track high-priority initiatives for the President to identify potential obstacles
- Serve as a thought partner and strategic advisor to President, standing in on meetings, pressure-testing ideas, and following up on action items with the team accordingly
- Provide analysis, recommendations, and options to the President regarding high-impact decisions
Qualifications
- Leadership experience in wide-ranging or cross-functional areas, such as operations, IT, communications
- An eagerness to learn new skills and take on challenges, intensely curious
- Strategic thinker, data-driven and analytical in approach to solving problems
- Strong written and verbal communication; listens well and can easily learn to communicate in someone else's “written voice”
- Excels at building relationships and networks; influences others to achieve outcomes
- Systems and process-thinker; loves creating order out of chaos
- Places a high value on confidentiality and loyalty
- A “roll up your sleeves” attitude toward challenging work
- Experience leading in an academic institution preferred
- Graduate degree from an excellent institution of higher education is strongly preferred
- Multilingual communications skills are strongly preferred
