North Shore Youth Council is seeking highly motivated, professional, and energetic Site Supervisors to join our team!
The Site Supervisor is responsible for being on-site before and after school daily and facilitating all aspects of the school age child care program. This person works under the direction of the Program Director and supervises child care workers to provide a safe and developmentally appropriate child care program in accordance with all regulations and guidelines of North Shore Youth Council, the Suffolk County Child Care Council, and the NYS Office of Children and Family Services.
NSYC services the Mt. Sinai, Rocky Point, and Shoreham-Wading River School Districts. The hours of care are from 6:45 AM - 8:45 AM and 2:30 PM - 6:00 PM Monday through Friday when school is in session.
Qualifications:
- An Associate’s degree in child development, recreation, or a related field, OR a high school diploma or its equivalent AND at least three years direct experience working with children under 13 years of age, including at least one year of direct supervisory experience.
- Experience working with elementary school age children
- Must possess and maintain valid First Aid and CPR certifications
- Must be able to pass all background checks/registries and fingerprinting
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills and abilities
- Must display a positive attitude, have good judgment, and be able to work as a team
- Experience with special needs students a plus
- Available to work a flexible, part-time schedule
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervises and monitors the safety of all children in the program in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings under the direction of the Program Director and within the licensure requirements and regulations of OCFS.
- Supervises program staff members and volunteers, maintains a safe and positive environment for all participants, and delegates responsibilities.
- Plans, organizes, and implements the daily school age child care program schedule before and after school.
- Plans diverse, age-appropriate quiet and active enrichment activities for the purpose of presenting or reinforcing learning, math, and literary concepts.
- Actively listens to children, participates in activities and interacts with children in appropriate, respectful, and nurturing ways that support and encourage their emotional and social development.
- Identifies signs of emotional or developmental problems and maintains daily open communication with parents/guardians and Program Director.
- Follows the appropriate disciplinary policies, initiates and recommends positive measures to curb behaviors.
- Resolves conflicts among children, staff, and/or parents/guardians effectively and in a professional manner.
- Keeps daily attendance, manages registration paperwork, keeps appropriate records, incident reports, time sheets, staff evaluations, and maintains all program equipment and inventory.
- Completes daily record keeping of attendance and on-going knowledge of the number of students in the program at all times, including when transitioning between activities.
- Administers daily health screenings, basic first aid, and medications as may be required in accordance with state regulations and agency policies.
- Knows emergency procedures, rules and regulations, maintains COVID-19 safety compliance, and conducts regular fire and emergency evacuation drills with children and staff.
- Keeps clean and tidy spaces before and after activities.
- Encourages and maintains a good working relationship, professional demeanor, and effective communication with school administrators, staff, and parents/guardians.
- Greets parents/guardians daily and promotes participation.
- Keeps the Program Director informed regularly of program operations and any questions or concerns that arise.
- Reports to the appropriate individuals and/or agencies any suspected abuse or neglect.
- Attends meetings and staff trainings as required, including agency meetings, CPR/First Aid trainings, healthy and safety trainings, ongoing education, and summer orientations.
