The director of a Center plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day functioning of the facility within the framework of appropriate child development principles, and knowledge of family relationships. The wellbeing of the children, the confidence of the parents and the high morale and consistent professional growth of staff will depend largely on the knowledge, skills and dependable presence of a director who is able to respond to long range and immediate needs and able to engage staff in decision-making that affects their day-to-day practice.
Responsibilities will include but, not be limited to, the following:

General Management:
  • Developing, implementing and evaluating center policies and programming.
  • Administering day-to-day operations, including being available to address parent, child, and staff issues.
  • Monitoring staff, including annual evaluations.
  • Monitor the implementation of and adherence to all child day care center rules and regulations set forth by LARA
  • Monitor each staff member’s training requirements and adherence to the requirements set forth by LARA.
  • Participate in hiring and on-boarding new staff members.
Children’s Program
  • Plan, supervise, and implement a developmentally appropriate learning program in accordance with the requirements of Child Day Care Licensing as well as the policies and philosophy of the Center.
  • Gear the program plans to meet the needs of individual children with concerns for their interests, handicaps, talents, special needs and individual style of learning.
  • Review posted lesson plans for each classroom.
  • Assist children/families in making the transition into the program.
  • Implement methods for supervising & effectively utilizing the services of classroom teachers & caregiving assistants.
  • Supervise the ordered arrangement, appearance, décor, and learning environment of each classroom, playground & public space (hallway).
  • Treat all children and their families with dignity and respect.
Parent Partnerships
  • Plan and implement methods of establishing positive partnerships with the parents or legal guardians of the children in the care of the Center.
  • Communicate verbally on a daily basis with each child’s parent or guardian (greeting at drop-off or pick-up, sharing positive messages about the children and the program activities).
  • Be welcoming, available and approachable with all parents
  • Remain tactful with handling negative children and their behavior.
  • Conduct parent conferences regarding the children’s adjustment to the program and classroom behavior when needed.
Health & Safety
  • Be familiar with allergies and special dietary needs of the children in the care of the Center and be sure postings are in a prominent place.
  • Be familiar with and adhere to the Center’s Illness Policy, including pandemic policies.
  • Inform parents/guardians of any child in care that has been diagnosed with a contagious illness so that children can be monitored for symptoms
  • Remove from the classroom and play yard any broken toys or equipment.
  • Be familiar with and adhere to staff-to-child ratios both in classroom and on the playground at all times.
  • Be familiar with all emergency routes and procedures and perform emergency drills as required by LARA.
  • Sign Accident Report forms for each accident or injury occurring during hours of operation. Provide the child’s parent or guardian with a copy of this form and file a 2nd copy in the child’s personal file.
  • Follow the Emergency procedures for Serious Illness or Injury as required by LARA.
Enrollment
  • Answer the telephone and do so in a clear and professional manner.
  • Present yourself in a professional manner in your attire, your communication, your voice modulation, at all times.
  • Conduct tours of the Center for prospective families.
  • Be welcoming and accommodating to all current & prospective families visiting the Center.
Requirements:
  • Meet educational/training qualifications set forth by Child Day Care Licensing in a timely manner.
  • Have and maintain current certification in Infant, Child, Adult CPR, First Aid, and Blood Borne Pathogens.
  • Be present and available in the Center for a minimum of 6 hours each day.
  • Be reliable in attendance and give ample notice of absence.
  • Be punctual for your assigned work schedule and dress professionally and appropriately.
  • Adhere to dress code as outlined in the Center Operations document.
  • Be flexible with your schedule.
  • Maintain a positive attitude.
  • Remain calm in tense situations.
  • Communicate directly, avoid gossip.
  • Strive to solve conflict with co-workers independently.
  • Share ideas and materials.
  • Participate actively in promoting and maintaining a positive, clean and healthy environment for the all of the children and their families in the care of this Center.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand and walk over 60% of the workday in order to supervise children throughout daily activities, walk throughout the Center and outdoor play area, participate in gross motor and playground activities.
  • Must have the physical stamina to care for energetic young children.
  • Required to lift (7 – 50 pounds), bend, sit on the floor, run and engage in other physical activities.
