Job Summary

The Clerical Assistant/Receptionist serves as the first point of contact for students and relevant campus stakeholders, including instructors, faculty, campus program coordinators, deans of students and academic deans. This position is primarily responsible for answering the phone, greeting visitors that come to the Disability Services Office and responding to and referring incoming email communications from students.


Essential Functions

  • Serve as first point of contact for students and relevant campus stakeholders.
  • Answer basic questions and refer incoming questions as needed.
  • Draft and edit communications copy and material.
  • Keep accurate and detailed records of incoming communications.

Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • High School Diploma.
  • Strong communications skills (verbal and written).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with an interest in being part of a committed team of professionals.
  • Strong administrative skills with knowledge of correspondence and document preparation.
  • Excellent proofreading skills, high attention to detail and the ability to multi-task.
  • Superior computer skills, including MS Office Suite, Outlook, Adobe and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Extensive knowledge of UMass Amherst student support resources.
  • Knowledge of Clockwork paperwork.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

Typical office environment.


Work Schedule

Monday – Friday; 8:30am-5:00pm.


Salary Information

$20.00/hr.
