Basic Purpose: The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) performs accurate, reliable, and timely laboratory testing that provides laboratory information to physicians and other healthcare professionals for the diagnosis and treatment of their patients. The Clinical Laboratory Scientist follows the Laboratory’s written policies and procedures in order to sagely perform testing, ensure the quality of that testing, and train CLS student interns and new CLS employees. The Clinical Laboratory Scientist may also assist in the evaluation and selection of laboratory instrumentation, in process improvement projects, in maintaining laboratory accreditation, and in providing expertise in other areas that are consistent with the CLS scope of practice. Qualifications: Education and Experience: 1. Baccalaureate degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, or equivalent 2. Valid California license for Clinical Laboratory Scientist 3. MT (ASCP) certification, or equivalent, recommended 4. Acute hospital Chemistry/Hematology experience required 5. Experience with BC DX Chemistry equipment preferred 6. If required to drive to other sites, valid CA driver license and proof of insurance Availability: 1. Must be able to work weekends on a rotational basis and holidays as needed 2. Will be required to work occasionally on other shifts (by arrangement) when staffing requires Ages of Patients Served: This position is responsible for the indirect care of patients in all age categories.
