Position Summary:
Responsibilities include assisting microbiology lab supervisor, staff, and PM Shift Supervisor. Jobs include setting-up cultures, answering the phone, entering/removing blood culture bottles into/from BACTEC systems, staining smears, and ordering, unpacking, recording and putting away supplies. Sets up Kirby Bauer susceptibility testing and MicroScan MICroSTREP Plus panels once a CLS has standardized the inoculum. Subcultures BACTEC bottles under the direction of a CLS. Sets-up, enters/removes panels for the MicroScan WalkAway-40. Clerical duties such as filing and notifications may be performed. Responsible for the part of the Microbiology Procedure Manual in such areas as apply to him, e.g., specimen processing protocols. The supervisor may assign additional special projects. These responsibilities are performed with a high degree of confidentiality and must demonstrate effective customer relations. Must demonstrate enthusiasm and self-motivation in job performance. Must show a professional attitude toward job, laboratory and hospital. Must exhibit an ability to effectively work with lab personnel. Must practice good attendance according to hospital policy. Responsible for all other duties as assigned.
