Position Title: New Iberia Research Center: Clinical Laboratory Technician

Department: 901004|NIRC Research Resources

Responsibilities:


The New Iberia Research Center is a $54 million biomedical research center which provides resources for the conduct of basic and applied research requiring the use of non-human primates aimed at the solution of human health and societal problems. In addition, the Center serves as a resource to the biomedical community enabling investigators from other institutions to conduct all or part of their research. The NIRC is a Center of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Within the NIRC, the Director, Associate Director, Quality Assurance Auditor and the Chair of Veterinary Medicine comprise the Executive Team.

This position encompasses processing, analysis, and reporting of diagnostic samples in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures and applicable regulations governing research in a contract laboratory setting including calibration, preventative maintenance and quality control performance of applicable equipment. Diagnostic disciplines include hematology, coagulation, chemistry, microbiology, parasitology, and urinalysis. Additional responsibilities will include shipping of diagnostic samples in accordance with applicable regulations. Demonstrate analytic and diagnostic reasoning skills. Perform clinical diagnostic and research related procedures with emphasis on recognizing and resolving problems requiring the application of interpretive judgement.

Qualifications:
An associate degree with emphasis in Clinical Laboratory Science (or equivalent). A.S.C.P. certified (or equivalent) preferred and Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiner’s licensure (or eligibility) as a Clinical Laboratory Technician is required. Previous experience as a generalist in a biomedical research or clinical laboratory is also preferred. Strong computer skills are a must, as are
skills in managing, planning, and organizing multiple activities. Basic knowledge and understanding of regulations governing operation of a research laboratory or hospital laboratory is preferred.
