JOB SUMMARY
Provide counseling and information on work incentives and planning assistance to individuals with disabilities who are receiving benefits from the Social Security Administration (SSA) as they seek employment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Benefits Counseling:
- Obtain and evaluate comprehensive information from beneficiaries with disabilities
- Provide accurate information about Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) work incentives
- Analyze and explain personalized impact of employment activities on benefits, including Medicare and/or Medicaid
- Develop personalized work plans that promote employment and utilize appropriate work incentives
- Link beneficiaries to resources to ensure successful employment outcomes
- Advocate on behalf of beneficiaries with other agencies and programs
- Interpret federal laws, regulations, and administrative code about public benefits
- Provide services via telephone, email, video, and some limited face-to-face interactions
- Limited travel to participant homes and other sites in the community, using own vehicle, may be required
- Attend and participate in all required trainings and meetings
Documentation:
- Document services provided according to policies and procedures established by Paraquad and the Social Security Administration
- Ensure accurate entry of participant information and maintain ultimate responsibility for organization of records including tracking and reporting services as required by SSA
- Complete intake and paperwork for new participants
- Maintain strict confidentiality standards as required by SSA
Outreach:
- Conduct and coordinate outreach efforts and work in cooperation with federal, state, and private agencies, and nonprofit organizations that serve people with disabilities
Miscellaneous:
- Demonstrates knowledge of agency policy and procedures
- Assists to fulfill program outreach and education functions in relation to Paraquad's mission, vision, and values
- Understanding of and commitment to the independent living philosophy
- Protects participant's rights to privacy and confidentiality in all forms of communication
- Completes other duties as assigned

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree (social work/services or related field preferred); 5 or more years of prior experience as a CWIC will be viewed as the equivalent
- Ability to obtain Federal Level 5 Suitability clearance required
- Current CWIC certification (preferred) or completion of provisional certification part I requirements within three months of starting employment and full CWIC certification within one year
- Complete a minimum of 18 continuing certification credits (CCCs) annually. SSA requires certified WIPA staff to earn credits during each annual certification period in three areas: twelve credits of training provided by Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) National Training and Data Center; three credits for state and local training events approved by the WIPA Social Security Project Officer; and three credits for the submission and approval of a Benefits Summary and Analysis (BS&A) report.
- Working knowledge of disability and disability-related programs and services
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
· Prior experience as a CWIC
· Master’s degree (social work/services or related field)
- Personal experience with a disability or previous experience working with people with disabilities
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong computer skills required
- Ability to utilize various kinds of technology to connect with beneficiaries (Skype, video chat, phone, email)
- Ability to utilize various technology platforms (Microsoft, Google, federal reporting databases/files)
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office programs and database environment
TRAVEL
Limited travel to team meetings and outreach events.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $40,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
