ABOUT THE POSITION

The Consumer Legal Specialist is responsible for supporting the Legal Collections Department by carrying out vital administrative tasks for the department. This position requires preparing and maintaining files for small claims cases. The Consumer Legal Specialist is responsible for appearing at small claims hearings and maintaining the administrative workflow of the legal collection process.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Preparing for small claims trials (Including preparing Exhibits)
  • Attending small claims trials, presenting case in front of judge (traveling as needed for hearings)
  • Staying current on litigation process/documenting
  • Assisting In-house Counsel/Outside Counsel in preparing for cases
  • Answering telephones and transferring calls to appropriate staff members
  • Maintaining electronic and hard copy filing system
  • Open, sort and distribute incoming correspondence
  • Performing data entry and scanning documents
  • Scheduling and coordinating travel arrangements
  • Other duties as assigned

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of small claims court system and practices
  • Detail-oriented, ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and integrity
  • Intermediate PC skills; ability to work with multiple platforms
  • Knowledge of FDCPA, TCPA, UDAPP in addition to other federal regulations
  • Valid driver license, insurance, and reliable transportation to attend court hearings

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have a minimum of two years civil litigation experience
  • Must have a minimum of one year of clerical/administrative support role
