Job description
We are looking for a Cost Accountant to join our team! You will be responsible for preparing and analyzing financial records for our company.
Job Functions and Responsibilities
- Establish cost accounting policies and procedures to arrive at accurate standards for inventory valuation and identify improvement opportunities.
- Focus on improvement including all facets of cost accounting, inventory control, variance analysis, gross margin analysis, forecasting & system improvement. Initiate process improvement projects to update transactional, financial, and reporting processes.
- Develop annual standard costs, providing analysis, conclusions and impacts to current item cost.
- Collaborate with other department managers in reporting and reviewing various trends and key performance indicators.
- Generate and distribute weekly/monthly/quarterly spend, inventory, and production reports as needed.
- Develop cost estimates for potential new products in conjunction with Finance, Operations, and Engineering.
- Lead annual physical inventory count and audit.
- Analyze data regarding actual & projected manufacturing costs, labor, scrap, raw material, and efficiency data to determine the cost, trends and effects of costs on business.
- Provide management with targeted reports specifying and comparing factors affecting profitability of products and services.
- Provide data for margin review process and methodology to find areas where margins can be improved by price increases and/or obsolescing/substitution.
- Hands on approach- Interacts across the organization including all disciplines to communicate and gather information necessary in obtaining needed information.
- Support Supply Chain to audit purchase price reviews to update standard costs
- Analyzes financial information to determine present and future financial performance.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field
- 5+ years in a Cost Accounting manufacturing environment
- Strong skills in variance analysis, attention to detail, organizational skills and ability to prioritize, ability to assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem.
- Ability to develop and mentor the people reporting to you.
- Strong analytical & independent problem-solving skills to evaluate financial results.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, especially with respect to Cost of Goods and Inventory Valuation
- Advanced MS Office skills
- Proficient in ERP systems
- Extended knowledge of QuickBooks Manufacturing edition
