ROLE AND PURPOSE:

Provide a comprehensive guidance and counseling program for all children in grades PreK-6 and specifically provide services to meet the special needs of his/her assigned caseload; consult with teachers, parents and staff to enhance their effectiveness in helping children's educational, personal, social and career development; and provide support to other elementary educational programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

• Master's Degree from accredited college or university
• Valid Texas Counselor's Certification, required.

Experience:

• Two years teaching experience

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT

• Teach the elementary guidance curriculum
• Guide individual and groups of pupils through the development of educational, personal, social, or career plans
• Plan and evaluate the campus guidance program

SCHOOL/ORGANIZATION CLIMATE

• Identify and support at-risk students
• Counsel individuals and small groups of students who are in at-risk situations
• Consult with teachers, parents, and staff regarding meeting children's developmental needs and regarding specific information about the children for whom they have responsibility

SCHOOL/ORGANIZATIONAL IMPROVEMENT

• Coordinate, conduct or participate in activities which contribute to the effective operation of the school
• Demonstrate leadership ability
• Demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively with other professionals

ADMINISTRATION AND FISCAL/FACILITIES MANAGEMENT

STUDENT MANAGEMENT

• Refer students in at-risk situations and/or their parents to special programs and/or specialists

• Maintain a high level of integrity and service at all times
• Apply good public relations skills when working with school personnel and community members

• Pursue continuous professional growth
• Attend 3 hours of ethics training each year
