PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Counter Sales Associate is responsible for providing assistance to customers during the sales/purchase process and for responding to customer inquiries in a professional manner. The Counter Sales Associate is responsible for maintaining a strong product knowledge and is encouraged to market and promote new products as well as product specials. The Counter Sales Associate also assists with warehouse functions as appropriate.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Sales Initiation

  • Assists customers (in person or over the phone) during the sales process in an effective and efficient manner that encourages return business.
  • Accurately conducts the sales transactions at the counter or by phone by appropriately entering the customer order in the computer system.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of the entire sales process from start to finish (including the order, billing, delivery, and payment processes).

Sales Tracking & Order Fulfillment

  • Picks and fills product orders as appropriate. Assures that orders leaving the warehouse are accompanied with the appropriate documentation and have been checked for accuracy.
  • Processes product returns assuring that all documentation is collected and accurately entered into the computer system.
  • Places follow-up calls to open will-call customers regarding merchandise being held

Customer Service

  • Assists in maintaining the counter and product display area assuring a safe, clean and orderly environment. Assembles and stocks product displays and shelves and prepares customer refreshments.
  • Observes customer opportunities and problems and reports them to the Warehouse Manager.
  • Creates and maintains positive relationships with customers.

Product

  • Maintains an awareness of all product knowledge information (including product catalogs, price sheets, etc.), merchandise promotions, test merchandise, and advertisements.
  • Markets all products sold and suggests replacement/alternative products when appropriate.
  • Generates product stock requests as appropriate.

Team Orientation

  • Consults with the Corporate Credit department regarding outstanding customer accounts that place a hold on the release of an order/ticket.
  • Consults with other branches regarding inventory checks and stock transfer requests.

Merchandising & Warehouse Maintenance

  • Assists in maintaining the counter and product display area assuring a safe, clean and orderly environment. Assembles and stocks product displays and shelves and prepares customer refreshments.
  • Assists in warehouse duties such as stocking and labeling shelves, inventory of goods, etc. in a manner which assures an orderly and safe work environment.
  • Creates and maintains a positive working relationship with all staff throughout the organization.


OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists with the shipping and receiving processes as needed including training on the UPS shipment process.
  • Occasionally operates a forklift to assist in warehouse duties.
  • Completes stock checks for the Corporate Purchasing Department as requested.
  • Reports suspicious activities immediately to a member of the management team.
  • Performs other duties as instructed or required to successfully complete the job.


NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or equivalent, as determined by Springfield Electric.
  • A minimum of one year experience in the electrical industry and/or knowledge of electrical products.
  • Familiarity with warehouse and delivery operations.
  • Strong mathematical ability.
  • Commitment to and demonstration of high ethical standards governing professional behavior and interactions.
  • Basic familiarity with the use of a personal computer.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely in written and verbal formats.
  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills, including an ability to plan and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Completion of EDGE and EPEC Bronze Level or commitment to complete such training within 18 months of starting job assignment.


PHYSICAL ABILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to utilize a computer keyboard, computer monitor, and telephone.
  • Ability to bend, climb, push, and pull, including the ability to maneuver at heights and in tight or small places.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and otherwise transport work-related materials that frequently weigh up to 75 lbs. and that may occasionally weigh in excess of 75 lbs.
