SUMMARY
Processes orders for material or merchandise received by mail, telephone, or personally from customer or company employee by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Maintaining a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude toward customers at all times.
- Responding promptly to customer inquiries.
- Communicating with customers through various channels.
- Ability to learn and understand Acme’s products, to effectively answer customer questions.
- Processing orders, forms, credit applications, and requests.
- Edits orders received for price and nomenclature.
- Informs customer of unit prices, shipping date, anticipated delays, and any additional information needed by customer.
- Writes or types order form, or enters data into computer, to determine total cost for customer.
- Records or files copy of orders received.
- Check inventory and production schedule to advise customer on on-hand quantities.
- Routes orders to departments for filling and follows up on orders to ensure delivery by specified dates.
- Prepares shipping and customs documents.
- Recommends type of packing or labeling needed on order.
- Receives and checks customer complaints.
- Confers with production, sales, shipping, warehouse, or common carrier personnel to expedite or trace missing or delayed shipments.
- Attempts to sell additional merchandise to customer.
- Enters new customer data and other sales data for current customers into computer database.
- Investigates and resolves customer problems with deliveries.
- Helps Accounts Receivable resolve discrepant invoices.
- Other general office tasks - Telephone backup, General filing.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Minimum of a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to three years related experience and/or training.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, and percentages.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
