General Description of Duties

The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of routine and complex clerical work and research for the sale of vehicle and vessel titles, registrations and license plates, parking placards and driver licenses. Employees in this classification perform at entry level support to assist and interact with the general public and other government agencies.

Essential Job Functions

1. Accept and process payments for license plates, titles, parking placards and/or driver licenses for an extremely high volume of customers entering the office.
2. Ability to process customer requests with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency to facilitate effective customer flow and minimize wait times.
3. Thoroughly review all documents presented and maintain a high awareness for fraudulent documents.
4. Process title, tag and parking placard renewals by mail. Receipt payments and forward proper paperwork, decals or placards to customer in a timely manner.
5. Interact with customers to authorize approval of transactions, research questions and respond with proper procedures or instructions.
6. Follow the guidelines of Florida Statutes and Department of Revenue. Review and maintain a strong working knowledge of the rules and regulations established by the Department of Highway Safety & Motor Vehicles.
7. Review documents for acceptability on issuance and ensure proper notarization is complete and all fees and documentation are in accordance with the Department of Highway Safety & Motor Vehicles.
8. Advise customers on procedural requirements and provide resource information when applicable.
9. Prepare correspondence for customers via mail for fees and additional needed information.
10. Balance cash, checks and credit cards for daily deposit and reports. Maintain proper cash handling practices at all times.
11. Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED.
Up to one year clerical or customer service experience.
Must meet all testing requirements.

  • Possess skill in using good judgment, discretion and confidentiality.
  • Ability to deal with people in a variety of changing and complex situations; ability to deal tactfully and cordially with a variety of people from different cultural backgrounds.
  • Strong skills in multi-tasking and ability to transition between different types of transactions.
  • Working knowledge of computers and electronic data processing, including ability to access, operate and maintain various software applications.
  • Working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures; ability to operate basic office equipment.
  • Ability to learn a wide variety of regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform routine mathematical computations and tabulations accurately and efficiently.
  • Ability to work under pressure and/or with frequent interruptions.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all levels of management, employees, other departments, officials, and the general public.
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of providing excellent customer service.
  • Ability to read, update and maintain various records and files.
