The role
Pharmaceutical Technical Development (PT&D) is embarking on a daring digital strategy! The Data Governance and Policy Lead will be responsible for the definition and execution of a range of data governance activities to lead and protect the PT&D scientific data assets, so that they can be used with confidence to improve business value and enable in-silico experimentation & AI algorithm development while legal, ethical and security aspects are safeguarded.
You'll handle proactive business engagement, partnering to ensure governance and policy work are aligned with regulatory requirements, customer expectations, enterprise data governance strategy and meets the needs of the organisation.
What you'll do
Be responsible for the development of the Data Governance Framework for the respective area(s) and contribute to development of the Global Data Governance strategy, goals and roadmap.
Define and own the reporting on performance of data governance processes, standards, quality and compliance within AZ functions and act upon outcomes.
Lead and direct design and implementation of Data policies that balance benefit and risk for responsible use; as well as taking into account internal and external context and AZ-wide policies
Develop the requirements for robust privacy, legal, security and ethical controls for data access and ensure the appropriate measures are in place to supervise these
Be responsible for the multi-functional development of Data Standards, including Master data, Reference data and Metadata.
Lead development of Data Quality strategy for the organisation, and its execution across functions, to raise data quality.
Work with senior Data Owners and team members, to maintain alignment to data quality and governance strategy.
Contribute to creation and execution of mission, vision, strategy, goals, roadmap and metrics for the function.
Lead change and improvement initiatives for data literacy, culture and compliance, including devising the approach for communication, training and support.
Build and line-manage a small team of data stewards and data provisioning experts.
Essential skills & experience:
- Bachelors degree in Chemistry/Biology/Engineering, Information/Data Science, Informatics, Computer Science, Economics or related field – or equivalent experience.
- Significant experience and deep domain expertise within a relevant industry. Validated knowledge of data standards, data management and IT management regulations, policies and principles, applicable to the Pharma industry.
- Proficient knowledge and experience with regulated and/or legal environment and requirements (e.g., GxP, data privacy and security).
- Proven track record to lead in a diverse, distributed team, within and across functions. Experience with global working and across cultures.
- Demonstrate project leadership and good communication skills with the ability to influence others to achieve objectives
- Validated change management, interpersonal, assertiveness and negotiation skills.
Desirable:
- Masters or PhD in Chemistry/Biology/Engineering, Information/Data Science, Informatics, Computer Science, Economics or related subject area. Applicable validated experience, e.g. Therapy Area or Function.
- Experience of Business/IT partnering for the implementation of Data Governance-related solutions.
- Experience in life sciences and healthcare
- Experience working across the drug research and development lifecycle
- Experience in data ownership or stewardship
- Previous line management experience
